PVNC Catholic is seeking to increase the number of Student Monitors in the Northumberland Region. As a Student Monitor in Northumberland, you will work directly with students in the classroom, supporting the absence of Educational Assistants at our schools in Cobourg, Port Hope, Grafton and/or Campbellford. In this role, you’ll enjoy flexibility and ownership over your own weekly schedule. This means that you determine which days of the week you are available to work. This flexibility promotes a healthy work/life balance. Because our Student Monitors can see and feel the important impact they make in our schools, many decide to pursue further education to become qualified Educational Assistants. This is a rewarding position that offers continuous learning in a positive, supportive environment. Under the direction of the Principal/Vice‑Principal, the Student Monitor will supervise and support students where assigned, ensuring a safe and secure environment at all times. Key Responsibilities Be available on short notice to replace absent employees on an emergency basis where no qualified employee is available Supervise elementary and/or secondary students in the classroom and other indoor and outdoor spaces ensuring a safe, secure and engaging learning environment at all times Follow instructions of the Principal/Vice‑Principal or teacher in charge Manage minor student discipline issues and elevate more serious matters to the Principal/Vice‑Principal Promote positive attitudes towards and encourage enthusiasm for learning Demonstrate effective problem‑solving skills, patience and flexibility Cooperate with school staff regarding safety protocols, emergency plans and school procedures Be aware of specific student’s medical/behaviour situations and keep such information strictly confidential What You’ll Bring To This Position The following are minimum requirements of this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also apply. Successful completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent is required Prior Experience (paid or volunteer) working with children is required Ability to follow instructions and use initiative Strong communication, judgement and decision making skills when interacting with students Ability to read and understand student safety and/or behaviour plans and alert Principal/Vice Principal where necessary Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of student information Possess an understanding of and a willingness to support the mission of a Catholic School system Creative, enthusiastic, patient and responsible team player First Aid, CPR, BMS training is an asset Does this sound like the role for you?
