Data System Analyst

OverviewPosition: Data Systems AnalystLocation: Markham (3 days/week in-office, mandatory)We’re looking for a Data Systems Analyst to join our Information Technology Data Delivery Group in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. In this role, you\'ll collaborate with a high-performing team to build a center of excellence for data ecosystem artifacts, including data creation, maintenance, and project requirements. Your expertise will be vital in areas such as requirements gathering, infrastructure management, and solution documentation.What You’ll DoClaims & Policy Data Analysis: Analyze structured and semi-structured data in claims, policies, underwriting, and customer interactions.Identify patterns in claims frequency, fraud indicators, and loss ratios using lakehouse datasets.Support actuarial teams with data extracts and trend analysis.Customer & Risk Insights: Segment customers based on behavior, risk profiles, and product usage.Analyze customer lifetime value, churn risk, and cross-sell/up-sell opportunities.Collaborate with risk and compliance teams to monitor exposure and regulatory thresholds.Regulatory & Compliance Reporting: Prepare data extracts and reports for regulatory bodies (OSFI, FSRA, NAIC).Ensure data lineage and traceability for audit and compliance.Validate data accuracy and completeness for filings and disclosures.Data Wrangling & Preparation: Clean and transform raw data from sources like policy admin systems, CRM, and claims systems into analytics-ready formats.Leverage lakehouse tools (Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg) for versioned and time-travel datasets.Work with data engineers to ensure efficient ETL/ELT processes.Business Intelligence & Visualization: Build dashboards and visualizations for underwriting, claims, finance, and product teams using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.Enable self-service analytics by creating reusable datasets and semantic layers.Data Quality & Governance: Profile and validate data to ensure consistency across policy, claims, and financial domains.Utilize metadata tools like Unity Catalog and Collibra to tag and catalog datasets.Support master data management and reference data initiatives.Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work with actuaries, underwriters, product managers, and IT teams to understand data needs.Translate business questions into analytical queries and data models.Document business logic, assumptions, and data definitions.Predictive & Advanced Analytics Support: Assist data scientists with feature engineering and exploratory data analysis.Provide historical data extracts for model training and validation.Interpret model outputs and integrate them into business reporting.What You’ll BringUniversity degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.5+ years leading Data Systems Analysis in large-scale enterprise data projects.8+ years as a Business Analyst with experience in data design, development, and implementation of critical enterprise systems.Expertise with data technologies & tools such as Snowflake, Hadoop, PostgreSQL, Informatica.Extensive experience in ETL processes, particularly with Informatica.Proven ability in data governance, data stewardship, and metadata management.Strong understanding of complex business processes driving technical systems.Leadership and influencing skills at the senior management level.Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Insurance knowledge is a plus.Why Join Us?Collaborative and dynamic environmentCompetitive compensation and benefitsOpportunity to work with cutting-edge technologiesGreat work-life balance with hybrid work options#DataSystemsAnalyst #DataAnalysis #ETL #Lakehouse #PowerBI #Tableau #Snowflake #Informatica #DataGovernance #DataScience #BusinessIntelligence #RiskManagement #DataWrangling #InsuranceTech #JobOpening #Hiring #MarkhamJobs #J-18808-Ljbffr
