**Background**:
Miller Waste Systems Inc. has been in operation since 1961. Miller is a leader in waste management and diversion, providing governments and industries with a wide range of services in the province of Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Manitoba. Miller has over 50 years’ experience in the waste management sector, and currently operates out of more than 30 locations. We are looking for a highly capable Financial Planning Analyst (FP&A) to join our team, based in Markham, ON.
**Summary**:
The FP&A will work closely with the Director of FP&A, local manager, and local administration to implement procedures that support the financial needs and goals of the business. The successful applicant will interpret financials, develop and provide tools and use effective communication to guide and support managers on key operational and strategic directives and become a trusted partner for the management team.
**Responsibilities**:Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Assists with preparing and monitoring the budget and forecasting process
- Participate in developing and implementing budget models and simulations
- Assist with creating visually insightful reports and dashboards to measure the health of the organization and help track and improve operational efficiency
- Collect, monitor and analyze financial and non-financial information to ensure data integrity
- Conduct monthly variance analysis to identify trends and recommend corrective actions
- Use advance analytics tools and AI-driven platforms to review and provide financial and analytical support to internal stakeholders
- Ensure deadlines are met to provide the information required for month and year end procedures
- Prepare monthly reports for senior management
- Conduct research into assigned area, considering company policies and procedures, ASPE and other developments within the field
- Other ad hoc assignments and special projects as required
**Qualifications & Requirements**:
- Minimum three (3) years of related and/or relevant business experience; experience in the waste management sector is an asset.
- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in Accounting and Finance
- CPA designation, or working towards designation, is preferred
- Prior work experience with data modeling, budgeting methods and procedures
- Expert knowledge in MS Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel (including Macros, Pivot Tables, Lookup, Power Query and Data Analysis functions)
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize work while meeting stringent deadlines
- Requires a sound knowledge of standard accounting and budgeting principles
- Must possess proven research, analytical and problem-solving skills
Flexibility is also required as this position occasionally requires travel, early starts, late finishes and on rare occasions weekend work. This is an in-office role, but occasional remote work is acceptable when approved.
