Job Overview Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and experience equivalent to four years of full-time paraprofessional or technical traffic and/or accident survey work. Substitution of Education for Experience: Course work credit received from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience on a month-for-month basis to a maximum of four years (e.g., 45 quarter hours may substitute for one year of the required experience). Responsibilities Leads others in the analysis of accident reports to prepare diagrams which include information on types and locations of accidents and dates, times, and weather conditions. Leads others in the calculation of accident rates per million vehicles at specific locations using daily traffic volumes in conjunction with the accident history of the locations; compares accident rates with those of similar locations. Leads others in summarizing radar speed surveys to determine the characteristic speeds of motorists and establish a speed limit that is both safe and comfortable. Leads others in the reviewing of lighting plans submitted by local utility companies including calculating the amount of lumination provided by each luminaire and the maximum and minimum lighting ratio for the system; determines if the proposed design meets existing standards. Notifies the legal services division concerning cities and counties affected by new construction or rerouting of state highways. Compiles information and data information for the state mileage report and related mileage summaries to be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration. Prepares and revises Federal Urban Systems routes for submission to the Federal Highway Administration. Updates bridge records for defense requirements with current data, including index maps and pre‑attack in our records for submission to the Federal Highway Administration. May operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Sick Leave: 1 day (7.5 hours) per month if worked majority of month. Bereavement Leave: Pay for 3 days; additional 2 sick days may be granted for total of 5 days. Family Medical Leave: Up to 12 work weeks per year, with continued health insurance coverage and reinstatement. Parental Leave: Up to 4 months of unpaid leave after 12 consecutive months of full‑time service. Military Leave: Granted per state and federal laws. Holidays: 11 paid holidays per year. Retirement: Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS). Deferred Compensation: 401(k) and 457 plans with employer match. Flexible Benefits Plan: Tax‑adjustments for certain expenses.
