What You'll Do Here Lead commercial management of projects, developing and implementing the commercial strategy to drive performance and minimize risk. Change management, including schedule interpretation and claims administration. Administer project contracts (project agreement, subcontracts, consultancy agreements, purchase agreements, etc.) to ensure deliverables and timelines are met and commercial risk is minimized. Lead the drafting, review and negotiation of contracts with clients and subcontractors to optimize financial, legal, risk, and reputational positions. Develop and monitor procurement plans, facilitate competitive tendering, and oversee bidding processes, including evaluation of bids and recommendations. Provide regular reporting and analytics on commercial issues to executives and project managers. Engage with Aecon’s insurance advisors to develop appropriate project insurance programs and coverages. Collaborate with legal advisors as needed and develop risk management and mitigation plans for both bid and project phases. Lead commercial management of project close-out, including defect liability period and O&M. Lead and align a team of commercial direct reports with project priorities and accountability for results. May be responsible for Project Controls functions (schedule/cost/risk/document control) depending on project phase and structure. Demonstrate a solid understanding of finance, accounting, and project reporting. What You Bring To The Team 10 years of experience working for a contractor on major projects, ideally tunnelling/rail related. Minimum of 5 years of commercial management experience on major projects, including work in joint ventures with international partners throughout the project lifecycle. Legal, Engineering, or Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent. Experience with various contract types (Design Build, Lump Sum, Unit Price, development/collaborative delivery models). Strong understanding of construction methodologies in large, complex environments. Knowledge of change management, including variations, claims identification, narration, quantification, and evaluation. Understanding of contract law relevant to the project jurisdiction and financial functions (e.g., project cash flow). Experience with tendering, contract administration, budgeting, procurement, subcontract administration, and earned value management; Primavera P6 scheduling is preferred. Proven track record with claims management and dispute resolution on major projects. Experience with risk identification and management; basic understanding of insurance program requirements for various project types. Experience with integrated ERP systems; excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills; strong leadership abilities. Ability to liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders (legal counsel, client, subcontractor, consultants).
