Physician Assistant – Respirology (ILD & PH) St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is searching for a qualified Physician Assistant to join its Respirology department. This full‑time, permanent position is located on the Charlton Campus and offers a schedule of Monday‑Friday days with a 7½‑hour shift. Posting #: 32715Department: Medical Affairs – PhysiciansEmployee Type: Regular, Full TimeOpenings Remaining: 1Union: OPAA Position Summary The Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and the multidisciplinary Respirology team to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with advanced lung disease, including Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) and Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). Under the supervision of a physician, the PA is authorized to perform comprehensive patient assessment, intervention, referral, management, treatment, and evaluation in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities Review, examine, and assess patients with primary respiratory complaints in a busy outpatient clinic environment Field patient phone calls related to medication regimens, adverse side effects, and intercurrent illnesses Review laboratory results for patients managed in the clinic Provide patient‑ and caregiver‑education regarding prescribed medications and disease management Document patient encounters in the electronic medical record Manage and prescribe home oxygen therapy as indicated Order diagnostic investigations for clinic patients Administer acute respiratory medications and perform thoracentesis with appropriate training Qualifications and Skills Graduate of an accredited Canadian or US Physician Assistant training program Certification (CCPA or PA‑C) or eligibility for certification through the PA Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Preferred experience in managing and evaluating patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) Superior communication skills and commitment to the Mission Statement of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Preference for applicants with previous respirology or internal medicine experience Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and independently within scope of practice Energy and enthusiasm for patient care and team collaboration Equal Opportunity Statement St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is an equal‑opportunity employer and strives for equity, inclusiveness, and diversity in all programs, practices, facilities, and people.
