POSITION TYPE TERM (3 Year), FULL-TIME Shift: 8:00am-4:00pm with a 30 minute lunch break. Overview The Financial Empowerment Coordinator will take leadership on implementing 1JustCity’s Financial Empowerment Program; a new program developed to ensure that our guests have support in accessing any and all financial benefits to which they are entitled, and providing them with 1:1 and group financial counselling/support services, as well as income tax filing. This will become an integral part of 1JustCity’s programs, with the goal of ensuring that our guests are as financially comfortable as we can make them. The Financial Empowerment Coordinator will work with Resource Staff, Knowledge Keepers, Elders, "Aunties, Uncle", Peer Mentors, and volunteers to implement this program at all 1JustCity locations. This program is fully funded and the Financial Empowerment Coordinator will enjoy the resources allowed by that as they work to achieve the target metrics laid out in the funding agreement. Our drop-ins are places where people who may be housed or unhoused, come to access food and resources as well as a listening ear and offering activities that are not always accessible to guests. While we provide for basic needs, we also strive to offer programs that are transformational and change lives for the better. 1JustCity operates drop-in sites in three Winnipeg neighborhoods: West Central, West Broadway, and Osborne Village. This position requires flexibility between sites. Responsibilities Support the strategic direction of 1JustCity’s vision and goals. Implement 1JustCity’s newly developed Financial Empowerment Program, and take leadership on fostering its growth. Track and report on performance metrics laid out in the Prosper Canada funding agreement, ensuring that we meet our obligations. Assist with data entry and keeping statistical data. Manage the Financial Empowerment Program budget. Hire, train, and supervise Knowledge Keepers, Elders, "Aunties, Uncle", Peer Mentors, as per the program budget, to support the Financial Empowerment Program at all 1JustCity sites. Solicit, train, and supervise volunteers to support the Financial Empowerment Program at all 1JustCity sites. Work with Site Leads to ensure that the Financial Empowerment Program is well facilitated at all 1JustCity sites. Work with the Community Development Lead to establish relationships with other organizations providing financial empowerment services, so that we might enrich each other's programs; as well as with organizations that do not currently provide financial empowerment services, but can refer guests to our Financial Empowerment Program. Stay up to date on educational programs offered through Prosper Canada and ensure that guests can take full advantage of these offerings. Participate in maintaining a good flow of information within the full 1JustCity team, so that all staff can be informed and up to date on the Financial Empowerment Program. Provide services directly to guests through the Financial Empowerment Program. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Must possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines, track and achieve performance metrics, and report clearly to funders. Must be able to treat all people regardless of sex, religion, culture, gender identification, race, or colour with respect and acceptance. Must be able to set clear boundaries with guests. Have a good knowledge of financial resources and benefits available to low-income individuals and families, and ability to provide sound financial advice to low-income individuals and families. Understanding of financial principles, budgeting, ability to assist guests with money management and tax filing. Adaptable with the ability to work flexible hours including early evenings and some weekends if required. Skilled in the use of Google Workspace; able to operate office equipment. Some physical work, including lifting, bending, climbing stairs, carrying up to 50 pounds. Experience working and/or volunteering in community or non-profit organizations is an asset. An understanding of trauma informed care and harm reduction principles. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality. NVCI, ASIST, CPR First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, or a Food Handler’s Certificate is an asset. Education and Qualifications Post-secondary education in a relevant social services field or equivalent experience preferred. ASIST Suicide Prevention, CPR/First Aid, Non-Violent Conflict Management/Crisis Intervention, Naloxone administration, and Food Handlers Certificate. Requirements Criminal record check and child abuse registry is required due to the nature of the role. Working Conditions Full-time, 37.5 hours per week; may include occasional evening or weekend shifts. Fast-paced, close-contact environment with staff, volunteers, and vulnerable community members. Exposure to crisis situations, conflict, mental health emergencies, and sharps. Some physical work including lifting, bending, and navigating stairs and ensuring guests can take full advantage of these offerings.
