Business Development Manager, New Build Wärtsilä Energy leads the transition toward a 100% renewable energy future. These cover decarbonization services, future-fuel enabled balancing power plants, hybrid solutions, energy storage, and optimisation technology, including the GEMS Digital Energy Platform. We have delivered 79 GW of power plant capacity and more than 130 energy storage installations in 180 countries around the world. This is a permanent position open to candidates located anywhere in Canada. Individuals residing within a 60‑kilometer radius of a company office are expected to follow a hybrid work model, which includes on‑site presence two days per week. What You Will Be Doing: As a New Build Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new Engine Power Plant Project opportunities across North America. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive business growth and ensure successful project delivery. Key Accountabilities & Attributes Direct customer interaction with responsibility to develop New Build Engine Power Plant Project opportunities for North America, particularly for Data Centers, Developers, and Independent Power Producers. Proactively develop a pipeline of sales opportunities relevant to Projects. Lead face‑to‑face proposal presentations and negotiations with customers to secure contracts. Work collaboratively and proactively with the Finland EPP leadership and support staff to ensure maximum leverage of Wärtsilä strengths, relationships, and resources. Have previous experience and an understanding of the systematic approach to assessing and developing project sales in all aspects, including the ability to identify and understand the customer's buying & funding cycle in order to prioritize opportunities. Know when, who, and how to influence EPP and personnel in Wärtsilä. Comprehensive understanding of the North American energy market, including fuel costs and availability. Follow established sales and proposal processes. Multi‑year track record of major project &/or agreement sales success (including greater than $10 million USD per agreement or project). Main Responsibilities Develop and maintain customer relationships to secure new business. Work closely with EPP groups, Sales Support Engineers, Growth and Development, Account Managers, and Energy BDMs to develop information necessary for market assessment and proposal creation. Respond to customer requests for final and preliminary pricing, technical, and performance information. Handle contract negotiations. Deliver customer presentations and on‑site meetings. Participate in trade shows. Ensure comprehensive handover of all commercial and technical aspects of the project at contract time. Personal and Technical Development Responsibilities Data Center and IPP/Developer markets. Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business. Five or more years of experience in major project and/or long‑term service agreement sales. Consistent track record of success in winning or originating contracts greater than $10 million. Specific engine‑based Power Generation industry or front‑of‑meter utility‑scale battery energy storage experience is a must. Written and spoken fluency in English required. Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time, primarily within the US and Canada. For applicants that reside in BC, the annual salary wage range is $143,000 CAD – $203,000 CAD. The starting salary for this position will be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education, individual skill set, level of experience, and internal equity. Wärtsilä Canada offers a generous benefit package, including extended medical & dental coverage, RRSP matching (up to 7% of salary), 4 weeks of vacation (increases with years of service), and 5 paid personal days per year.
