The Nova Scotia Division of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires (Commissionaires) is seeking volunteer board members for the Board of Governors.

Whether you are an ex-military or law enforcement officer, or a leader in the private sector, the Commissionaires may be a great way to serve those who served our country. Our social mandate is to provide meaningful employment to veterans of the military or police force as they transition to civilian life. li>

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • 10+ years in the workforce in leadership roles; Military, Police or Private Sector
  • Relevant university degree or equivalent
  • Experience in strategic planning, finance, and accounting, and/or board governance
  • Military or Policing experience, or an understanding of the culture of the uniform through personal experience (i.e., family of veterans, military or police, or commissionaires
  • Knowledge of English and French would be an asset

POSITION OVERVIEW

The CNS – Board of Governors, consists of approximately 16 volunteer members. They work with the CNS management team to provide strategic direction for the Division and exercise oversight of operations and resource expenditure. The Board meets six times yearly: four quarterly meetings, an annual general meeting, and a professional development session. Meetings are typically 1-3 hours in duration and can be attended in person at the Head Office in Bedford, NS or virtually via Microsoft Teams. p>

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Board members are expected to read relevant material prior to each meeting and could be asked to serve on various committees, with the potential to expand into an executive position on the Board. li>

Working with the CEO, the board helps to assess strategic risk for the organization and mitigation strategies.The Board provides oversight on the budgeting and reconciliation process in the Division.The Board is responsible for maintaining the Division policies and bylaws.
