About AIM

Autism In Mind Children’s Charity (AIM) was founded in 2011 by Suki Choi, who aimed to provide children with autism an equal opportunity in life.

The charity began with just one child. When Suki first started her daycare business in Markham, she was approached by a family whose son had been on the government waitlist for autism therapy for four years. The generous response from the community and daycare parents inspired her to do even more.

Suki and a team of volunteers began fundraising on behalf of other local families to help their children access professional therapy. They also organized free Social Saturdays for children with autism.

The momentum from these small acts of kindness grew rapidly. Within just a few years, AIM became a registered charity in Canada and emerged as one of the leading service providers for children with autism in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). AIM transitioned from being solely volunteer-driven to a team of over 60 full-time staff members, offering a multidisciplinary approach to providing direct services for families and children with autism.

Time Commitment:

  • The Board meets 4-8 times per year
  • Each Director should be available to serve on at least one committee
  • Directors are expected to serve at least one 2-year term

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated professional, executive or leadership experience and accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the non-profit sector
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills

An understanding of, or experience in, either of the following specialties will be seen as an asset:

  • Legal
  • Human Resources
  • Real Estate Development Industry
  • Digital Marketing
