Job Brief:

The Business Coordinator will be responsible for existing client interaction and support for Instrumentation, Electrical and Structural estimates, assigned strategic initiatives, modifications to systems ensuring they are completed in a timely fashion and within budget. This role may be required to plan resources, prepares budgets, and monitor progress of business opportunities in North America. You will also keep stakeholders informed through the lifecycle of the initiatives you are working on. 

Job Authority & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflows of the department s relating to strategic initiatives in North America.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations for supervisor reports.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, determine scope of work and required contents of estimate (may review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials).
  • Oversee preparation of estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for industrial projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications.
  • Advise team on major changes in scope of work during bid process and post award.
  • Assist with preparation of contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Plan and prepare schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules.
  • Verify Compliance to control programs.
  • Provide updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a strategic initiatives and monitor actual cost to estimated cost.
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to process and cost estimates.
  • Consult with existing clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and resolve issues.
  • Assist with monitoring client addendums and advise the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire strategy execution.
  • Upon strategy completion, conduct debriefing with production teams to discuss positive and negative aspects of the initiative.
  • Follow up and report on feedback regarding declined opportunities/proposals.
  • Responsible for team maintenance of files for working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Accountable to participate, lead, and share knowledge for team success in terms of cost, schedules, quality, and Environment Health and Safety (EHS).

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent math, organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to delegate, motivate and inspire team members.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry.
  • Strong analytical, interpretive and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), enterprise resource planning (ERP) software or other related software.
  • Ability to perform site visits in North America for job responsibilities and scopes as required.

Qualifications:

  • 20+ years in business practices of the I&E industry. Contractor and client-side experience is preferred.
  • 7+ year Oil and Gas project experience (oil, gas, LNG, rail terminals, fuel terminals) in excess of $10M.
  • 10+ years Renewables experience (wind and solar and battery storage).
  • Mining experience (above and below ground).
  • Forestry experience (mills, OSB Plants).
  • Experience with obtaining quotes for parts, materials, and labour costs (May require review and incorporation of historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures).
  • Ability to develop a rapport and a strong working relationship with the client is critical.
  • Must be able to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate strategic initiatives from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
  • Knowledge of Electrical, Instrumentation, and Structures.
  • Ability to work under pressure with set deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry in North America.
  • Ability to manage confidential information ethically with integrity and professionalism.

Education:

  • Certified dual ticket journeyman in Electrical and/or Instrumentation.
  • Business Degree, Accounting designation and/or association membership is an asset.
