Your Role

As a Customs Documentation Specialist, you will manage the accounts within your alpha group, ensuring the efficient and compliant processing of import and export shipments through customs, arranging domestic trucking, and performing other value-added services as required. Your typical shift will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 PM - 4:00 AM.

Your Responsibilities
  • Ensure classifying data entry, photocopying, scanning, and some assembling of entries.
  • Audit commercial documents, applying harmonized tariff schedule codes for accurate duty assessment and ensuring all federal requirements are met.
  • Review and assess accuracy of documents, verifying country of origin/export, IOR, terms of sale, and value to ensure compliance with federal regulation requirements.
  • Daily follow up on documentation discrepancy issues, requiring the ability to troubleshoot and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with customers and foreign origins.
  • Ensure all Across, Cadex (CAD), and CW warnings are actioned in a timely manner.
  • Read and follow client notes, SOP, and any updates necessary to process in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Inform the Customer Care Representative of any occurrences that may prevent the compliant release of goods.
  • This position may require a weekend schedule on a department rotation basis and may include working a holiday schedule based on the needs of the operation and requirements of the account.
Your Skills and Experiences
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, International Trade, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role within the freight forwarding industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of customs/brokerage, government regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Certified Customs Specialist certification from the original CSCB certification program.
  • Knowledge of tariff classification, OGD requirements, permits, amendments, NAFTAs, etc.
  • Experience with all modes of transport: air, truck, rail, and ocean.
