Position Details
The Institute for Geospatial Inquiry, Instruction & Innovation (i4Geo) is inviting qualified applicants to apply for a part-time (0.60 FTE or 3 days/week) term position as an Institute Manager, with potential extension. The Institute Manager for i4Geo plays a key administrative and technical role, supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of geospatial research and training programs. Working closely with the i4Geo Director, Geospatial Technician, faculty and student members of i4Geo, the Department of Geography and Environment (DoGE), and the Teaching Centre, the Institute Manager ensures that resources and activities are managed effectively in the delivery of Institute priorities. The position includes responsibilities such as organizing and promoting workshops, liaising with stakeholders, coordinating meetings, record-keeping, web site maintenance and social media announcements, and coordinating some of i4Geo's training and research initiatives.
This position reports to the i4Geo Director. The Institute Manager collaborates with faculty, students, and staff to drive the strategic goals of the institute, enhancing the availability and impact of geospatial learning, research, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Management and Administration
- Support the Director and members of i4Geo with research proposal development and budgeting by assisting with the collation of quotations and other information, as needed.
- Support the scheduling of Executive and Advisory Committee meetings and record minutes.
- Maintain records of i4Geo activities and assist with the development of annual reports.
- Support the planning and implementation of workshops, micro-credential, and non-credit training courses.
- Ensure educational materials, software, and technical resources are in place to support training and outreach events.
- Coordinate schedules, secure rooms/facilities, and manage registration for i4Geo events.
- Support budget planning and monitor expenses related to the delivery of workshops, training events, and meetings.
- Stakeholder Communication and Promotion
- Maintain i4Geo web site and regular social media posts on events and achievements.
- Serve as a preliminary i4Geo point of contact for stakeholders, including potential guest speakers, students, and research partners.
- Promote i4Geo events and programs through university channels and relevant platforms, increasing visibility and participation.
- Develop marketing materials and engage in outreach activities to attract a diverse group of participants, especially graduate students in remote sensing, geoscience, and environmental fields.
- Strategic Planning and Program Development
- Contribute to the ongoing development of i4Geo's research mission and training curriculum to align with current trends and student needs.
- Identify opportunities for new programs and training areas based on emerging technologies and research in geospatial sciences.
- Work with faculty to ensure program objectives align with departmental goals and strategic initiatives.
- Technical Support and Supervision
- Work with the Geospatial Technician to maintain i4Geo software and hardware functionality for research and training activities (e.g., license management and installations).
- Work with technical staff and students, such as the Geospatial Technician and the Agility Entrepreneurial Strategist, as needed to support the Institute's mission.
- Support faculty and students with research activities as needed and as time allows.
Qualifications / proficiencies:
- Master's degree or higher in Geography, Remote Sensing, Environment, or a related field.
- Proficiency in geospatial software and data analysis tools, with an ability to support academic programs in these areas.
- Demonstrated experience in program/project management, preferably in an academic or research context.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated web site management and social media experience.
- Experience with marketing, outreach, and promotion.
- Graphical design or media skills to support promotional material development will be an asset.
- Financial and budgetary management skills are an asset.
This position is essential to the growth and success of i4Geo, supporting its mission to develop innovative geospatial research and training opportunities. The Institute Manager will be instrumental in coordinating efforts to expand i4Geo's impact within the academic, industry, and government geospatial communities.
Hiring DetailsHiring salary range: $36,000.00 – $41,500.00 per year. The University offers a competitive compensation package, including benefits.
