We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Credit Risk to join the MCAN’s Risk Management team.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Credit Risk, the Senior Manager, Credit Risk is primarily responsible for assessing, monitoring, and managing the level of credit risk within MCAN’s Construction & Commercial portfolio via credit analysis and adjudication. The Senior Manager will be engaged in other departmental activities, such as policy/procedures management and reporting. The individual may have delegated approval authorities for Construction & Commercial Lending, Residential Lending, and Equity investment transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess credit risks and mitigation strategies to ensure MCAN operates within policy and risk appetite limits.
  • Ensure sound credit control by taking a pro-active approach to MCAN’s overall portfolio management.
  • Recommend to the Director, Credit Risk and/or the Credit Committee the approval/decline of escalated commercial mortgage requests and investment opportunities.
  • Analyze credit policies in accordance with the regulatory guidelines, make recommendations for approval, and operationalize policy changes.
  • Produce and review reports identifying credit trends at the portfolio level and present findings to an Executive-level committee.
  • Monitor underwriting policy Exceptions and recommend enhancements to Exception Frameworks as required based on emerging trends.
  • Provide oversight to quarterly Credit Risk reporting for Board of Directors.
  • Review of Regulatory reporting submissions.
  • Support the independent review and ongoing validation of risk rating models.
  • Provide Credit Risk-related constructive challenge to business line recommendations for new products, services and initiatives.
  • Assist in timely and effective preparation for any Credit Risk-related internal or external audits.
  • Prepare training sessions as required to further promote MCAN’s Risk Culture across the enterprise.
  • Keep apprised of industry trends and emerging risks in the Canadian real estate sector.
  • Support the professional development within and outside of the Credit Risk team.
  • Communicate MCAN’s credit risk appetite enterprise-wide and promote a strong Risk Culture with firm-wide accountability for identifying and managing risks.

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Business, finance, or math-related University degree preferred or an equivalent blend with a minimum of 8+ years relevant work experience within financial services industry.
  • Commercial Lending experience is a must, preferably in the areas of Commercial Real Estate lending and/or Commercial Credit Risk Management.
  • Experience with underwriting and adjudication commercial loans is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with preparing and presenting materials to an Executive-level audience.
  • Credit Risk/Commercial Account Management experience in other commercial diversified industries would be an asset.
  • Post Graduate education (CPA, CFA, MBA) would be an asset.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven leadership, strategic-thinking skills and critical-thinking skills.
  • Well-developed writing skills sufficient to precisely articulate ideas that involve interpretation, analysis and assessment of complex conceptual subjects.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to evaluate risks, make sound decisions, and effectively support those recommendations to an Executive-level committee.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop trusted collaborative working relationships across multiple stakeholders.
  • Highly focused attention to detail and drive to deliver high-quality results.
  • Ability to effectively manage and develop a team.
