Sr Drilling & Completions Engineer, Calgary, AB

The Senior Completions Engineer role will provide professional expertise in project planning, project optimization, key performance indicators, collecting data, assessing results and making recommendations to improve MEG Energy’s Completions programs and procedures.

In this role you will administer and oversee service contractors and work internally with other professionals, such as Geologists, Geophysics, Drilling & Completion Superintendents and Production/Reservoir Engineers as an integral part of the well construction team. As a subject matter expert, you will share design and engineering knowledge, program learnings and industry best practices with peers, junior engineers and technicians.

As a MEG Energy representative you will ensure alignment of activities with all applicable stakeholder priorities and will stress safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence in accordance with MEG Energy’s policies, HSE standards, Environmental compliance, Drilling Practices and Procedures.

Project Planning

  • Work closely with the multidiscipline project team to develop a full understanding of their needs and ensure the project objectives are being met.
  • Prepare completion programs with appropriate scheduling and operating procedures for field execution.
  • Ensure all required regulatory documentation is in place.
  • Assist in the preparation of contract and procurement strategies.
  • Prepare requisitions for well materials and services and ensure inventory management.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure project timelines are optimized with other MEG projects and priorities.

Well Design

  • Assist in ensuring regulatory compliance of programs and operations.
  • Conduct offset well reviews and benchmark peer performance.
  • Work closely with Service Contractors to design and execute effective programs.

Operational Support

  • Oversee operational cost control and cost management.
  • Work closely with the Operations Team during the planning, execution, and post operational review phases of the project.
  • Monitor daily completions operations and provide technical assistance where required.
  • Take ownership of the data quality and ensure it is accurately captured during the operational phase.
  • Seek for permanent performance improvements.
  • Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot major unplanned events.
  • Ensure service contractors meet MEG Energy’s business objectives and HSE goals.
  • Assist in the preparation of the project performance review to fully capture lessons learned and best practices.
  • Provide time and cost updates to project stakeholders as required.

What you will bring to MEG:

  • Must have an Engineering degree and a designated P.li>
  • 10-15 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas Industry specifically drilling and/or completions.
  • A combined history of planning and operational roles in the office and field is desirable.
  • Provides leadership and direction to contractors and field supervisors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships both within MEG Energy as well as Partner Groups, Service Companies and Regulatory agencies.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills are a must.
