The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented and able to demonstrate strong communication skills along with the professionalism to join our team. This position is located in Toronto, with hours 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and may require additional hours to meet business needs. Clerking experience is an asset but not required.ResponsibilitiesAssist with document managementProofread, edit and prepare standard legal documents and correspondence for review by lawyers, and edit grammar, punctuation and spelling as neededPrepare and file court documentsMaintain professional and timely communication with clients, court and counselBook meetings, court appearances and consultationsHandle routine inquiries in a lawyer's absenceEstablish and maintain lawyer filesPerform billing and accounting functions related specifically to the litigation practicePerform additional administrative duties as required including filing, copying, scanning, faxing, opening files, etc.Experience with ProLaw is an assetQualificationsAbility to work independently with minimal instructionImpeccable proofreading and grammar skillsHighly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracyAbility to multi-task and work within tight timelines to meet deadlines, reassessing priorities as neededStrong working knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure is requiredProven proficiency drafting documents and managing filesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsGraduate from an accredited Law Clerk program is an assetPrevious experience in a law firm is requiredDedicated to client serviceStrong problem-solving skillsRequirements and NotesCandidates must have 5 years of clerking/legal assistant experience in commercial litigation to be considered. Junior candidates will not be considered.
