School District No. 83 is presently seeking INDIGENOUS EDUCATION SUPPORT WORKERS.The Board of Education of School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) invites applications for this Union position; the rate of pay is $29.54 per hour.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE :Assist with all aspects of student activities as required, including direct involvement with individual or small groups of students, related to the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement and the Local Education Agreement.Coordinate with school Principals and the District Principal to create a schedule for working with Indigenous students.Provide assistance and support for programs aimed at developing the educational, emotional, social, and cultural abilities of Indigenous students.Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, counselors, and administrators; participate in planning and promoting cultural pride and awareness.Assist with student self-identification of Indigenous ancestry and data collection for the school and district.Monitor and track students’ progress, performance, attendance, academic achievement, and concerns regarding vulnerable students; report findings to relevant staff.Participate in school-based team meetings and other consultative meetings as required.Act as a liaison for community and cultural resources within classrooms and schools.Serve as a positive role model and advocate for Indigenous students, including areas like career/life planning and transition.Engage in problem-solving with students and families using conflict resolution methods.Participate in field trips, class activities, and outings when required.The above description reflects the principal functions of the role. Other duties within the knowledge and skills required may also be assigned.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :Grade 12 plus 6 months recent post-secondary coursework in human or social services, or equivalent.One year of recent experience working with Indigenous students and families in educational or recreational settings.Cultural awareness of the Indigenous community.Effectiveness, initiative, and flexibility in supporting educational goals for Indigenous students.Ability to communicate effectively and maintain relationships with the public, students, staff, and administrators.Ability to serve as a cultural resource with sensitivity to all Aboriginal nations.Working knowledge of computers and record-keeping systems.The successful applicant must be Indigenous in accordance with an approved special program under Section 42(3) of the British Columbia Human Rights Code.Interested individuals are invited to submit a cover letter, resume, three professional references, and supporting documentation.
