The SAFE Society is seeking a passionate individual to work after-hours on-call and casual hours in Sexual Assault Support Services in support of our mission to "end violence in the Shuswap"

Located in the beautiful Secwépemcul'ecw (Shuswap region) of British Columbia, the Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society (SAFE Society) is a registered charitable society that provides a broad spectrum of services to persons who are impacted by abuse. The SAFE Society works from an intersectional feminist and trauma-informed philosophy.

Classification: Victim Service Worker, Grid 11

Schedule:As needed, including nights, weekends and holidays with minimum availability of 12 shifts per month, including 3 overnight and 3 weekend shifts, and 8 out of 13 statutory holidays in the calendar year.

Hours: Casual program staff will provide after-hours relief for permanent staff and, as such, the hours will vary with no guaranteed minimum. The SASS Program is available for crisis callouts 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and the successful applicant must be available to carry the on-call cellphone overnight, evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled and attend to crisis situations as they arise.

Start date: As soon as possible when the right candidate is found.

Wage & benefits: Wage range $26.74-$30.69 per hour until funds are received for new wage rates as per the Collective Agreement, at which time the range will be $27.54-$31.61 paid retroactively to your start date, plus standby pay ($1 per hour) while on-call.

Job Summary

A Sexual Assault Services Worker is responsible for providing support to people of all genders who are survivors of sexual violence including emotional support, accompaniment, information, safety planning, and referrals in a safe, confidential, trauma-informed and non-judgmental manner that respects freedom of choice.

The successful applicant must be able to cover the 24-hour after-hours phone for the program, have their own vehicle and be available to travel throughout the Shuswap and region to facilitate access to services for sexual assault survivors. Sexual Assault Services Workers must be flexible to meet the demand of the clients and the program. Casual hours will be worked as client needs arise or as scheduled. Sexual Assault Support Services will be provided within the geographical area of Salmon Arm and Sicamous/Malakwa and at times may include travel to/from rural areas and throughout the greater region.

The successful applicant must have knowledge, experience and the disposition necessary to effectively assist those who have been sexually assaulted and are in crisis situations. The SAS Worker will be expected to work collaboratively with existing services to enhance support to women/children who have experienced violence, identifying any gaps in service, and reporting them back to their Coordinator. Qualifications and Experience

· A Diploma in Human Service Work and/or equivalent training and experience certificates in a directly related field and/or equivalent gained experience from a combination of direct experience, training and education.

· Minimum two years of recent experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that involved crisis intervention work and/or support counselling work. Volunteer and practicum work will be included.

· Completed certificate(s) of participation in training in at least one anti-violence program such as Transition House Worker training, Children Who Witness Abuse training, Trauma Informed Practice, Reducing Barriers training and cultural competency and online anti-Violence worker training.

· Class 5 Driver's license.

· Use of an automobile is required for job duties. The successful candidate must have access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance (reimbursed by the employer as necessary, in accordance with policy).

· Satisfactory criminal record check, including working with vulnerable sector.

· Must be eligible to work in Canada.

· Crisis intervention, de-escalation and mental health skills are an asset.

· Knowledge of the criminal and legal systems are an asset.

Job Duties:

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Providing after-hours emotional support to clients who have been sexually assaulted. Travel to local or regional hospitals, clinics, and doctors' offices.

· Will be provided a phone for emergency callouts.

· Conducting client intakes, explaining the role of the worker and organization, assisting with intake forms and explaining issues related to confidentiality.

· Providing information on police, legal and medical systems.

· Provide emotional support to clients who have been through a crime debriefing and validating emotions, providing information on crime prevention to help clients avoid re-victimization.

· Assesses clients' need for other services and provides them with information on helping organizations and professionals such as community service agencies, counsellors, legal aid lawyers, physicians and mental health services. Recommends appropriate services to clients and maintains an awareness of other agencies and services being offered in our catchment area.

· Respecting the right of people to make choices and respecting individual situations, perspectives and needs.

· Maintaining professional and courteous relations with the service agencies with which the SAFE Society interfaces.

· Meets regularly with the coordinator to debrief, do case planning as relevant, and ensure current knowledge of resources and issues.

· Other duties as assigned.
