Senior Credit Solutions Manager

The Senior Credit Solutions Manager is responsible for contributing to the profitable growth and quality of the Bank's Corporate & Commercial Credit portfolio by performing financial solutions-related activities for clients.

Purpose:

The Senior Credit Solutions Manager is responsible for all deal structuring, negotiation, and final decisions on pricing within their defined portfolio. They interface directly with clients at times, in partnership with the Senior Client Relationship Manager.

The Senior Credit Solutions Manager liaises with Credit / Global Risk Management through the credit decision-making process and ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  2. Contributes to the profitable development of Commercial Credit business by:
    1. Ensuring timely analysis, structure, and presentation of credit / financial solutions proposals;
    2. Providing prompt and sound recommendations in the analysis and adjudication of credit proposals;
    3. Approving or recommending pricing for loans and credit-related fees;
    4. Recommending alternative terms, conditions, and covenants to provide a viable banking proposal;
    5. Restructuring marginal proposals into bankable deals where possible;
    6. Providing guidance, coaching, and counsel to Client Relationship Manager(s);
  3. Liaising with the Business Service Centre for fulfillment and service activities;
  4. Ensures accurate communication of the terms and conditions of an authorization and supervises its effective implementation;
  5. Ensure ongoing quality of the assigned credit portfolio through control and administration of specific conditions and reporting requirements;
  6. Safeguards the Bank's assets and liabilities by maintaining adherence to Bank and Branch Security Procedures;
  7. Executes Branch Compliance responsibilities including Know your Customer (KYC) requirements and reviewing customer transactions;
  8. Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates team members;
  9. Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions;
  10. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values and Code of Conduct;
  11. Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
Education and Experience:
  1. 3 years of Commercial Banking experience ideally;
  2. Undergraduate degree in business, economics, finance, or work equivalency;
  3. Strong knowledge of the corporate & commercial banking marketplace;
  4. Detailed knowledge of the assigned market area's key prospects, major companies, and competitive positioning;
  5. Very strong understanding of the Corporate & Commercial Bank's objectives, strategies, and lending products and services;
  6. Strong PC skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and commercial systems;
  7. Other training requirements as determined by the Bank from time to time;
  8. Strong credit skills and credit experience;
  9. Strong risk assessment and analysis skills;
  10. Good coaching, interpersonal, and teamwork skills;
  11. Ability to build solid business case justification for deals;
  12. Strong negotiation skills and sales/closing capabilities.
Working Conditions:
  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Limited travel domestically. The incumbent has no control over the number of applications requiring analysis and adjudication/recommendation at any given time.
