This role will be pivotal in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting budgetary and reporting processes, and contributing to compliance with funder and regulatory standards.Description

This full-time position (Monday to Friday; 35 hours per week) is primarily based at the CSSP Jane & Wilson office in North York, with occasional work from the Carlton office as needed. The role also offers regular flexibility for working from home, typically ranging from 1 to 3 days per week.

The successful candidate will operate under the direct leadership and guidance of the Executive Director, contributing to the organization’s financial operations and advancing its strategic goals. Collaboration with other team members will occur as determined by the Executive Director, and interaction with the CSSP Board of Directors may be required during Finance Committee meetings to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.

Candidates with prior experience in bookkeeping and financial oversight of non-profit budgets will be considered a significant asset. This is especially relevant for candidates with experience in directly supporting relationships and reporting for funders and partners such as the City of Toronto, Legal Aid Ontario, United Way of Greater Toronto, MCCSS, MLITSD, Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Ministry of Health, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and similar stakeholders. Familiarity with navigating the financial requirements and reporting standards of these stakeholders will be highly valued.

Fluency in Spanish is not a prerequisite for this position.

  • Contribute to oversight of CSSP's financial and budgetary operations, working in collaboration with external experts (such as a part-time bookkeeper and/or an external firm) as needed.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, process invoices and payments, and reconcile accounts.
  • Support annual budgeting and planning processes under the direct leadership of the Executive Director.
  • Manage the accounting cycle, including accounts payable/receivable, and ensure accuracy in financial transactions and records.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to prepare financial reports, pipeline analyses, and statements for funders, staff, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide informed recommendations to the Executive Director and other team members as required.
  • Support the annual audit process and contribute to the development and implementation of financial policies aligned with individual funding standards and regulations.
  • Contribute to relationships with financial institutions and vendors and evaluate emerging financial systems and technologies.
  • Manage payroll, benefits, and pension plans, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
  • Oversee tenant payment processes and assist in tracking volunteer hours, as well as financial obligations for casual workers and contractors.
  • Undertake other tasks as required by the Executive Director, including administrative duties.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Hands-on familiarity with full-cycle accounting, financial management, and reporting.
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred) and financial applications.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Excel, Google Workspace, and various business software.
  • Proven success in supporting payroll using Ceridian or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, analyze data, and problem-solve effectively to inform sound decision-making.
