The team In partnership with the Toronto Metropolitan University community, the Academic Accommodation Support team facilitates and supports accessibility and inclusion by implementing individualized accommodation plans to reduce disability-related barriers and ensure that students have equal access to education. The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Student Accommodation Facilitator to ensure that students with disabilities have the academic accommodations required to access their education and achieve their goals. This position involves reviewing medical documentation, developing and implementing individualized accommodation plans, providing ongoing support to students on accommodation matters, and working collaboratively with faculty members and campus partners to implement accommodations effectively and consistently using empathy, compassion, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of accommodation strategies, human rights and privacy legislation, and the post‑secondary education environment. Qualifications Successful completion of a Masters degree, with preference in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Kinesiology, Nursing, Education, or a related field. Minimum of three years’ experience in postsecondary educational settings or equivalent including experience working with adults with disabilities. Knowledge of a wide range of disabilities, including ADHD, ASD, Learning Disabilities, medical, psychiatric, sensory and physical/mobility, and best practices in providing academic accommodations. Demonstrated ability to review and assess medical documentation. Experience in navigating emergent/urgent situations and referrals dealing with complex disability related needs. Knowledge of Human Rights legislation in relation to persons with disabilities (Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act). Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision making skills. Strong organisational skills, and well‑developed ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to form partnerships with internal and external groups to advance the cause of students with disabilities. Good knowledge of word processing applications (Word), e‑mail as well as client management database systems and assistive technologies. Knowledge of postsecondary educational and medical settings, teaching / learning processes, disability issues relating to the learning environment, technology applications for the learning environment and supporting students with disabilities.
