About the Office of the Vice-President, PPB

The Office of the Vice-President, Programs and Partnerships Branch (VP-PPB) oversees all the programming divisions in the Centre and offers a unique opportunity to learn about the work IDRC does, and to contribute to its mission and goals.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Office of the Vice-President, Programs and Partnerships.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with strong organizational, research, analytical, and writing skills to support the Office of the VP-PPB in delivering its mandate. Tasks may include:

  • Assist with updating Program and Partnership Branch processes, including reviewing templates and guidance documents.
  • Provide research assistance (literature searches, background research) and contribute to the preparation of syntheses and reports.
  • Prepare briefing notes.
  • Participate in the preparation and coordination of calls for proposals for fellowships/awards opportunities.
  • Maintain and update databases and contact lists.
  • Assist in the organization of meetings and prepare minutes.
  • Assist in the e-filing of various documentation and updating the Intranet and Internet pages.

Students are considered integral members of teams and are invited to contribute to team discussions and assist with general programming. This work offers significant insight into the functioning of a donor and development research institution.

Candidate Profile
  • To be considered, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada or be an international student with authorization to work in Canada for the full duration of the employment.
  • You will return to full-time studies in the next academic term, or if you’re in your final year of studies, you must have been previously employed under either the Federal Student Work Experience Program, the Co-op/Internship Program or the Research Affiliate Program.
Education
  • Undergraduate student (final year) enrolled in a graduate studies program, or first year master's student, in one of the following fields: International Affairs, International Development, Public Policy, or a multidisciplinary social science degree.
Language Requirement
  • Have a proficiency in French and/or English (reading, writing and speaking).
Knowledge
  • Demonstrating knowledge of international development issues.
  • Understanding of research for development.
Experience
  • Drafting briefing notes.
  • Organizing meetings and preparing minutes.
  • Working with SharePoint is considered an asset.
  • Experience with gender-based analysis is considered an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including accuracy and attention to details.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently, to set priorities and organize work efficiently.
  • Strong ability to conduct research, to summarize and to analyze complex issues.
  • Ability to work with others as an effective and cooperative team member.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to individual, gender and cultural differences.
  • Sound knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and databases management systems.
  • Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., Stata or SPSS) is considered an asset.
