Join to apply for the Manager role at Alberta Health Services Your Opportunity: An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated Manager of Administrative Services (MAS) to join the Departments of Clinical Neurosciences and Family Medicine. As a key member of the management team, the MAS will play a vital role in leading administrative operations, supporting departmental initiatives, and ensuring efficient delivery of services across multiple sites. Managing support staff, administering terms of collective agreements, and providing leadership in human resources functions such as recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, workload assignment, vacation management, and WHS are part of the role. The MAS will also contribute to strategic planning, budget management, variance analysis, office space utilization, and resource allocation. Site travel is expected. In addition, the position manages physician recruitment, contract facilitation, physician privileges, and periodic reviews. The role reports to the Department Manager and works closely with all Department leaders, collaborating with clinical managers and directors to ensure tasks are completed effectively and timely. Strong written communication skills are essential, with responsibilities including preparation of newsletters, annual reports, and project involvement such as physician workforce planning. Key Responsibilities: Oversee all aspects of administrative support within the departments. Lead and manage support staff, administer collective agreements, and handle HR functions. Contribute to strategic planning, budget management, variance analysis, and resource allocation. Coordinate physician recruitment, contract facilitation, privileges, and periodic reviews. Collaborate with clinical managers and directors to ensure timely completion of departmental activities. Prepare professional documents such as newsletters and annual reports. Participate in year‑long projects, including physician workforce planning. Qualifications: University degree strongly preferred. 5 to 7 years of related experience in a management and/or supervisory role in a similar organizational structure. Experience in a complex healthcare environment, ideally within AHS, dealing with academic physicians. Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreements and HR best practices. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Flow‑charting, e‑mail, PowerPoint, e‑finance, e‑manager, e‑people (RMS and payroll). Experience in financial management and reporting is an asset. Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making skills, and ability to handle complex administrative challenges independently. Proven judgment, tact, diplomacy, and discretion in sensitive/confidential matters. Familiarity with policies and processes of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and University of Calgary (U of C) is essential. Proven leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and guiding staff. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization, time‑management, and analytical skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
