The successful candidate, under the direction of a senior civil engineer, will be responsible for the engineering analysis and design for a variety of municipal servicing, linear infrastructure, land development, stormwater management, and drainage projects. Flexibility exists in terms of the role and the experience level, and a civil engineering background with experience in land development and infrastructure planning (servicing studies) is considered a strong asset.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Develop civil engineering design for municipal linear infrastructure including watermains, sanitary sewer, forcemains, storm sewer, outfalls and roads.
  2. Design site civil design including grading, yard piping, and driveway access.
  3. Lead development application reviews on behalf of municipalities.
  4. Lead proposal effort and actively manage projects including scheduling and budget control.
  5. Collaborate with other design disciplines.
  6. Support the permitting and approvals processes.
  7. Support management of construction activities and provide contract administration support.
  8. Prepare preliminary and detailed designs reports.
  9. Apply design standards including the MECP and local development standards.
  10. Coordinate regulatory approvals for projects including local conservation authorities, MECP, MTO, DFO, MNRF and others.
  11. Coordinate with utility agencies to support projects.
  12. Assist with the preparation of tender packages and construction cost estimates.
  13. Work with the Infrastructure Planning team to complete Area Servicing Plans in support of Secondary Plans, Block Plans and other large-scale development areas;
  14. Assisting with delivery of other civil projects supporting our Land Development, Structural, Linear or Water/Wastewater design teams, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Civil engineering degree or equivalent.
  2. Permitted to practice license with good standing from Professional Engineers Ontario.
  3. Minimum of 8 years of working experience in civil engineering.
  4. Hydrologic and Hydraulic background including with open and closed conveyance systems, stormwater management facilities, floodplain analysis, and erosion/sediment control.
  5. Experience preparing feasibility, conceptual/preliminary and detailed designs for water, wastewater and/or transportation (roads) infrastructure, is considered an asset;
  6. Experience preparing engineering reports (functional servicing, stormwater management, traffic impact study, etc.) is considered an asset.
  7. Strong organizational, oral, written communication and problem-solving skills.
  8. Ability objectively to evaluate problems and opportunities.
  9. Experience with CAD (Civil 3D/MicroStation/etc.) and/or GIS (ArcMap/QGIS/etc.) is considered an asset.
  10. Motivation continuously to learn, broaden experience and to enhance engineering knowledge and qualifications.
