Vice President Exploration – Precious Metals Producer

We are partnering with a North American-focused mining company to identify a seasoned Vice President of Exploration to lead its exploration and resource growth initiatives. This publicly traded, mid-tier precious metals producer has a strong portfolio of operating assets and exploration projects across North America, with a commitment to sustainable mining practices and delivering value to stakeholders.

Role Overview

The Vice President of Exploration will play a pivotal role in the strategic growth of the company's resource base, overseeing all exploration activities across its asset portfolio. Reporting directly to the CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving discovery, resource expansion, and delivering technical excellence in exploration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership :
    Develop and implement the company’s exploration strategy to identify and prioritize high-potential exploration opportunities.
  • Portfolio Management :
    Oversee exploration programs across operating assets, near-mine opportunities, and greenfield projects to ensure a balanced pipeline of projects.
  • Technical Excellence :
    Lead teams in designing, implementing, and managing exploration programs, ensuring best practices in geology, geophysics, and geochemistry are adhered to.
  • Budget Oversight :
    Manage exploration budgets and allocate resources effectively to meet the company’s growth objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement :
    Work closely with executive leadership, operations, and investor relations to communicate exploration results and growth potential.
  • Team Development :
    Recruit, mentor, and retain top-tier exploration talent, fostering a high-performance culture within the team.
  • ESG Integration :
    Ensure exploration activities are conducted with a commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a proven exploration leader with a track record of discovery success and resource growth in precious metals mining. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Technical Expertise :
    Advanced degree in geology or a related field, with a deep understanding of mineral exploration methodologies and geological modeling.
  • Industry Experience :
    20+ years in exploration roles, with at least 10 years in senior leadership positions.
  • Proven Success :
    Demonstrable history of driving exploration success, ideally with significant discoveries or resource expansions.
  • Leadership Skills :
    Strong ability to inspire and lead multidisciplinary teams across diverse geographies.
  • Stakeholder Management :
    Exceptional communication skills to effectively present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic Vision :
    Ability to align exploration activities with corporate growth objectives and shareholder value creation.
  • Regional Knowledge :
    Familiarity with the geology of North America is required. South America experience is also desirable.

Location

The role requires frequent travel to the company’s project sites across North America with a preference for candidates who are open to being based near the corporate office or a key operational hub.
