Summary

The Yukon Status of Women Council is a non-profit organization that advocates for women's issues on a systemic level with all levels of government, conducts research and reports the results to amplify the voices of Yukon women.

The Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) + Family Law Project Coordinator is responsible for leading the implementation of the "After She Leaves" program to the specific legal and cultural context of Yukon, ensuring it meets the needs of our communities. This project focuses on improving outcomes for people navigating both family law processes and intimate partner violence in the Yukon with an aim to enhance legal support, community engagement, and advocacy for legislative reform.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local organizations, legal professionals, and stakeholders to facilitate project delivery.
  • Working with project stakeholders, follow the detailed project work plan to meet the objectives and timelines of the grant funding.
  • Oversee the logistics of immersive travel exchanges between Yukon and Ontario, ensuring objectives are met and experiences are documented.
  • Conduct, analyze and present community surveys and focus groups to identify service delivery gaps and barriers.
  • Train and support advocates and legal professionals in utilizing the "After She Leaves" program.
  • Use data and insights gained from the project to develop and advocate for policy changes in the Yukon Family Property and Support Act and the Children's Law Act.
  • Prepare and submit law reform proposals and briefs to relevant stakeholders and legislative bodies.
  • Implement monitoring and evaluation processes to track progress and measure the impact of the program.
  • Prepare budgets, progress reports and final reports for stakeholders, partners, and funding bodies.
  • Develop and execute an outreach strategy to raise awareness of the project and its findings.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the project when necessary, communicating with media and at public events, and supporting the production of social media content related to the project.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, law, public administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, ideally within a legal or social services environment.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations, particularly those affected by IPV.
  • Basic knowledge of family law, the legal system, and the dynamics of IPV.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel as required for the project

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of non-profit organizational structure and of women's issues, particularly in the North
  • Ability to effectively supervise, lead and empower others by sharing information, authority and decision making responsibilities
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience prioritizing responsibilities and ability to perform multiple tasks on an ongoing basis in order to meet deadlines and commitments
  • Ability to track progress and manage multi-staged projects including research, monitoring, budget and report writing duties
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills including diplomacy, empathy, negotiation and a commitment to building and fostering relationships
  • Demonstrated reliability, analytical thinking, discretion and ability to problem solve and act strategically with professionalism
  • Ability to develop strategic approaches through collaboration and partnerships with community, government and stakeholders
  • Proficient in public speaking, media releases, and adept in the use of social media and other communication mediums
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive issues
  • Extensive experience with funding application and grant proposal writing
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and budgeting and skill in the use of related software applications, including spreadsheets and Google Drive to manage project documents and budgets

Working Conditions

  • No or very limited physical effort required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Work Requirements

  • Day-to-day work is to be carried out at the YSWC office (if working away from the office is required, the IPV+Family Law Project Coordinator must notify relevant team members)
  • Occasional evening work
