The Opportunity

The Reproductive Care Program is a provincial program of the IWK Health Centre. Program staff works with hospital and community-based clinicians, health care planners, health information professionals and researchers in the area of pregnancy and newborn health across the province. We value collaboration, a supportive work environment, and respect for individuals, teamwork and solidarity. Reporting to the Manager of the Reproductive Care Program.

  • Provide leadership to provincial and national committees (i.e., fetal health surveillance, neonatal resuscitation advisory committee, policy development, etc.)
  • Lead perinatal quality reviews in all regional centres throughout the province
  • Provide leadership in the development and provision of education programs and provincial orientation
  • Determine priorities through interpreting data and identifying trends
  • Implement provincial resources that are current and reflect best practice and national standards
  • Create and implement evidenced-based guidelines and professional practice resources that reflect current standards of care and established best practices
  • Provide practice support and advice on issues related to perinatal care for interprofessional teams of health professionals throughout Nova Scotia
  • Maintain knowledge of standards as they evolve based on new research evidence, consumer demand, and/or changing demographics
  • Collaborate closely with RCP’s medical advisors, data analysts, health information coordinator, and database programmers to support health professionals and administrators set priorities and organize care in response to the needs and outcomes experienced by pregnant individuals and newborns in Nova Scotia.
Hours of Work

Hybrid work arrangements available. Monday to Friday (occasional weekends and evenings required). Travel is required.

Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Master of Nursing /Health Care/Education completed or in progress required
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered with, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia required.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience with demonstrated clinical expertise in perinatal/perinatal-newborn nursing with operational or practice leadership experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' progressive leadership experience, i.e., advanced practice role as clinical nurse specialist, clinical educator or clinical leader, or leadership development/experience in the last year.
  • CNA Perinatal Nurse certification an asset.
  • Current successful completion of a CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Recent clinical experience in supporting laboring and birthing women essential.
  • Experience in both hospital and community-based practice preferred
  • Experience with the provincial health system considered an asset
  • Certification in Instructor Level for Neonatal Resuscitation program (NRP), Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) and Acute Care at Risk Newborns (ACoRN) is considered an asset
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills essential.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team with diverse skill sets and perspectives required.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Sound knowledge of maternal and infant health care across the continuum is essential.
  • Familiarity with utilizing perinatal and population health data an asset.
  • Experience with delivering, facilitating and organizing education programs an asset.
  • Experience in both acute care and community practice an asset.
  • Experience in a provincial role an asset.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and clean driver's abstract required.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset.
