Position Summary

Reporting to the Head of School and working in tandem with the Priory School Foundation, the Director of Advancement is a key member of the fundraising team focused on the success of the school’s fundraising programs. The Director of Advancement builds meaningful relationships with the members of the community and inspires support for the School in securing financial resources that will support the School’s mission and vision.

The Director of Advancement will play a leadership role in helping to realize the School’s campaign goals and long-term fundraising objectives. They will work with the School’s volunteer and staff leadership in identifying, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors and strengthening a dynamic and vibrant culture of philanthropy. This is a role for an entrepreneurial, ambitious and creative fundraiser who wants to grow with the School’s fundraising ambitions.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Head of School and the Priory School Foundation, develop and support fundraising programs that foster and grow a community-wide culture of giving and meet the SOAR Campaign objectives
  • Identify opportunities to engage community members in meaningful ways that deepen their commitment to the school
  • In conjunction with the Head of School and Board members, determine advancement strategies including fundraising goals, budgets and timelines
  • Build positive, long-term relationships with donors, parents, alumni, and other members of the community to inspire philanthropic support
  • Work with the Head of School and the Foundation Board to effectively steward annual giving donors to support renewal and identify major giving potential
  • Contribute to campaign strategy and execution of campaign milestones, including launches, donor cultivation events, and gift and goal celebrations
  • Organize and manage special events – including annual parent events and special events to support the school’s fundraising goals
  • Ensure that all related policies and agreements are up to date and follow best practices
  • Track and analyze giving patterns, funds raised, and communication data to ensure goals are being met
  • Research and implement effective communication platforms to effectively reach all constituents in order to better communicate the need to support the school
  • In collaboration with the Communications Coordinator, develop all solicitation and promotion materials
  • Schedule, organize, and host Homecoming and other annual alumni events
  • Ensure that data for all aspects of the management and maintenance of Raiser’s Edge software (donation input, gift validation, receipting, contact information updates, student status, etc.) is entered in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide regular reports and updates to specific donors
  • In tandem with the Finance Director, generate and balance quarterly financial reports for all active funds
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Foundation Board including regular updates and minute taking.

Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree (preferred)
  • 5 years relevant experience in fundraising, development, constituent relations, preferably in a school setting
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop relationships with a variety of constituents
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work graciously under pressure
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both French and English
  • Ability to work effectively with databases. Experience using Raiser’s Edge software is a definite asset
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment is an asset
