As the Engineering Manager you will be pivotal in steering the success of the multi disciplinary technical team along with their leadership by building and nurturing them into high-performing engineering players. Beyond the people aspect, you will play a crucial role in project and product management, ensuring alignment with overarching business goals and collaborating closely with product managers.


While possessing technical expertise, you are not just a facilitator of code but also an adept problem-solver and decision-maker. Effective communication and collaboration are key aspects of your role, involving interaction with clients, internal departments, and stakeholders. Additionally, you will foster continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhanced development processes and methodologies. People development is another cornerstone, involving mentorship, training, and performance management to encourage a culture of professional growth. In essence, the role of this Engineering Manager is a delicate balance of technical prowess, leadership acumen, communication connections, and strategic vision that contribute significantly to the overall success of our clients organization.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

Engineering Responsibilities:

  • Supervises technical engineering work across all disciplines, ensuring timely completion of deliverables within budget and in alignment with project plans.
  • Serves as a technical resource in their expertise area, actively contributing to project deliverables as necessary.
  • Engages with clients to comprehend their requirements and provides regular project status updates.
  • Reviews and approves reports, calculations, cost estimates, and proposals before client submission.
  • Maintains regular communication with clients, soliciting feedback throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conducts lessons learned sessions, cultivating a culture of continuous learning to enhance team performance.
  • Develops and implements engineering processes and procedures, ensuring uniformity in project execution.

Leadership & Mentorship Responsibilities:

  • Leads, mentors, and coaches Team Leads and their Engineers, Designers, Technologists, and other professionals in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Provides constructive feedback to team members and Discipline Leads during performance management processes.
  • Oversees and reviews project schedules, planning project work as needed.
  • Guides the technical onboarding process for new team members.

Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Participates in business development activities, including conducting technical sessions and contributing to the drafting and review of proposals.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with organizations in the heavy industrial sector.




QUALIFICATIONS

As the Engineering Manager, you will bring:

  • A bachelors degree in engineering, with an advanced graduate degree considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience in a heavy industrial environment, such as mining, is ideal.
  • Previous experience in an engineering consulting environment is preferred.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation from APEGS or another province.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring others.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables.
  • Comfortable working within a mining/heavy industrial business environment.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and work seamlessly within a cross-functional team environment.
