About the Organization


The qathet Community Action Team is leading a coordinated and centralized response to the toxic drug supply crisis in the City of Powell River and throughout the qathet region.

Stakeholders across the region meet monthly to create and develop programming aimed at eliminating fatalities due to overdose. The qCAT's non-profit lead is Lift Community Services of qathet Society.

Our programs and services include employment services, supportive housing and homeless outreach, temporary shelter services, literacy programs, health services, outreach, immigrant services, adult and family on-demand support.

We also provide community leadership and development in overdose response planning, poverty reduction planning, and other projects that develop a more connected and resilient community.

Lift operates many resource centres in our community, including the local WorkBC Centre, the Community Resource Centre, qathet Complex Care Housing, the iOAT Clinic, the Family Place, and the Dr.

Elsie Paul Literacy Centre and the Nook Social Enterprise Cafe both located at the Powell River Public Library.

Opportunity


We are looking for a creative, skilled, and experienced individual to take on the role of managing day-to-day operations of harm reduction programming held within the Community Development department at Lift.

In the role of Community Development Assistant Manager, you will support the qathet Community Action Team's Overdose Prevention Site, Peer2Peer OAT program, Peer-Led Education, Substance Users Society Teaching Advocacy Instead of Neglect, Contingency Management programming and regional Drug Checking.


This role includes a little bit of everything on the CAT and program continuum: research initiatives, peer support, regional drug checking, community partnerships, overdose prevention services, education and programming targeted at people who use substances daily and recreationally.


We are looking for a dedicated individual who is committed to making a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Our dedicated staff and coordinators will benefit greatly from dedicated, on the ground management present during open hours.

Key Tasks and Competencies

  • Inspires and engages support workers by modeling a positive working style and demonstrates behaviours to promote a culture of trust, collaboration, and transparency
  • Consults and collaborates on staffing issues and initiatives including recruitment, onboarding (probationary period and orientation), training, teambuilding activities, and adheres to related policies and procedures
  • Assists and supports the coordination of the organization's performance management programs for harm reduction initiatives to enhance retention and support succession planning through rewards and recognition, career advancement and learning and development strategies and initiatives
  • Coordinates student practicum and volunteer placements
  • Ensures the support teams have the direction, resources and tools needed to meet all responsibilities in their job descriptions and excel in their roles
  • Collaborates with site Coordinators to ensure staff have resources, knowledge and skills needed to support participants and ensure accessibility of programs.
  • Oversees program administration duties such as sensitive and ethical documenting, maintaining client files, filing and general office management, coordinates the covering of shifts as needed.
  • Assists with financial administration of the programs.
  • Assists with data collection and reporting, as requested, and with program evaluations and maintaining statistical records.
  • Assist with the development of harm reduction strategies and practices and ensure staff are trained to follow established protocols.
