100% Remote position, working with an international team on AA or AAA games in an Unreal Studio.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of tools and workflows that enable the Art team to create high-quality content, efficiently and thoughtfully.
  • Direct, mentor, and support Technical Art staff, leveraging extensive experience and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Art/Animation Directors, Graphics Engineers, and external partners to maintain and enhance workflows and tools.
  • Work with other Directors to establish effective processes and workflows for game development.
  • Ensure the stability and performance of content creation tools.
  • Proactively identify and resolve potential issues. Bring clarity and a high degree of personal accountability.
  • Regularly evaluate and integrate new technologies and processes, including training.
  • Organize and contribute to the documentation of current tools and plugins, maintain the knowledge base on Confluence.
  • Define requirements and feature breakdowns for development and production plans, assessing and mitigating technical art risks.
  • Contribute to creating high-quality cross-play products and processes within a cross-functional team.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Science, Engineering, or Industrial Design; MS preferred (Or equivalent, relevant experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in Technical Art within the video game industry.
  • 3+ years as a Lead Technical Artist in AAA game development using UE4/5.
  • Shipped at least 1 AAA Unreal Engine game on PC or console in the last 3 years as a Lead Technical Artist.
  • Deep understanding of modeling, texturing, shading, rigging, animation, lighting, and rendering.
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, and C#, with experience in tool and library development.
  • Expertise in Maya and familiarity with other DCC packages.
  • Knowledge of current and upcoming tools and plugins for content creation.
  • Experience optimizing performance for PC and console games.
  • Proven ability to support art teams throughout game development.
  • Experience forecasting art resources based on production needs.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Modified Waterfall methodologies.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and Helix Core (Perforce).
  • Strong math skills, including 3D math and analytic geometry.
  • Experience with shader architecture and material libraries.
  • History of collaboration during prototyping and pre-production phases.
  • Experience in commercial DCC or UE4/5 plugin development.
  • Experience developing games for 9th-gen consoles.
  • Availability to work 6 hours per day within the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone.
  • Provide a portfolio demonstrating relevant skills and tools developed by you and your team.
