Working as part of an established organization structure and within standard protocols and procedures by which all work undertaken is conducted, the Building Science Specialist shall:

Job Specific Duties

  • Develop training material for scopes revolving around building envelope system as well as caulking, foaming, firestopping;
  • Schedule, oversee and deliver training sessions pertaining to building envelope systems, as well as caulking, foaming, firestopping;
  • Work alongside Director of training and development to oversee the training centre and its needs, maintenance, and expansion as necessary;
  • Conduct site inspections and provide inspection reports as necessary;
  • Capable to and has the knowledge to conduct on site troubleshooting and root causing of leaks;
  • Work alongside QAQC department to develop clear expectations and QAQC program;
  • Capable to and has the knowledge to conduct field air and water tests;
  • Oversee code, standards, and specs matters and keep team up to date on code changes as they become available;
  • Witness lab and field water tests as necessary;
  • Review window shop drawings for compliance with prodemnity and rainscreen principals;
  • Oversee, review and report on mock up installations;
  • Assist field managers with answering technical questions as they may arise from consultant reviews and reports;
  • Any other tasks as assigned by company principal;

Admin

  • Communicate with coworkers daily by telephone, email, in person, and any other form/mean necessary for the assigned duties;
  • Familiar with NAFS/CSA-A440, ASTM and OBC;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook;
  • Ability to write inspection reports as well as test reports for tested window systems;
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to read and review architectural/Window shop drawings;

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of building science and project management experience, in a construction and manufacturing setting;

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Building Sciences, Architectural or Civil/Mechanical Engineering, and/or Construction Management, mandatory training will be provided.

Working Conditions

  • On site work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require kno wledge of and adherences to basic safety procedures and precautions;
  • Full Health and Safety tr aining required (working at Heights, WHMIS) and follow Health and Safety standards on site;
  • Work environment requires wearing PPE for all site work and in certain other locations;
  • Requires driving to site and carrying tools;
  • Flexible to work overtime as required;
