Job Description

Algonquin College is seeking a Chair/Coordinator of the School College Work Initiative (SCWI) Regional Planning Team 9 (RPT 9). The RPT 9 Chair is responsible for coordinating the efforts of the Regional Planning Team in Eastern Ontario which consists of representatives of school boards, colleges of applied arts and technology, non-college training delivery agents, and appropriate community partners, including Indigenous Institutes in partnership with colleges in the development, planning and implementation of relevant programs for eligible students. Activities, forums, and Dual Credit programs are intended to support eligible school students in Ontario, including Indigenous students, students with special needs, and students in rural and northern communities, in completing their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and making a successful transition to a college and/or apprenticeship program.


The Chair/Coordinator RPT.9 provides leadership for accountability, transparency, and equity of approved projects to the Ministry of Education, three colleges, nine district school boards and business partners.


This is a 24 hour per week yearly contract position (subject to renewal). The position reports through the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Media, and Design at Algonquin College while representing the work of multiple regional stakeholders.


Within the role of RPT Chair, the incumbent is responsible for:


  • staying up to date with SCWI information through attendance at provincial RPT Chair/Coordinator meetings, review of SCWI resources and participation in SCWI led webinars;
  • representing RPT 9 to the SCWI for ongoing communication and operational matters;
  • planning, organizing, and facilitating 8-10 annual meetings with RPT 9 members;
  • providing guidance and oversight to ensure implementation and compliance of the SCWI approved projects including: marketing, partnership negotiation, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, negotiating service level agreements, post‐delivery assessments, and client relationship management activities;
  • building and sustaining strong on-going partnerships between district school boards, colleges and other educational and community partners;
  • provide direct input into the development and implementation of existing and new SCWI dual credits and activities;
  • building consensus with partners to develop cohesive strategies, to enable student success, and to address SMART goals;
  • organizing, and facilitating meetings, as required, with PASS RPT.9 sub-committee teams from the respective partners and ensure appropriate follow-up;
  • organizing submissions for the annual SCWI Symposium and the SCWI newsletter;
  • financial and student data reporting to Lead Institution, Algonquin College and SCWI Project Managers and Officers;
  • reviewing partners’ successes and recommend changes to ensure that appropriate standards of operation are established and maintained.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum four (4) year undergraduate degree or equivalent in Education, Business, or Public Administration/Policy or related field;
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification would be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of current education trends and policies geared to maximize participation in secondary school education and smooth transition to postsecondary (College) education;
  • Good knowledge of college structures and strategic planning;
  • Good working knowledge of District School Board structures and Ministry of Education policies, priorities and funding envelopes;
  • Superior presentation, communication, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Software;
  • Experience with budget preparation and tracking (government systems such as the Ontario Ministry of Education Enhanced Data Collection Solution or EDCS) is considered an asset).


A minimum of 7 years demonstrated experience in:

  • Creating and executing projects with diverse stakeholders;
  • Meeting multiple demands and needs amongst various stakeholders (Ministry/College/School Board/Business etc.) and within established timelines;
  • Mobilizing and managing diverse teams to gain confidence and agreement amongst partners;
  • Networking, building and sustaining school board/college/business partners;
  • Providing leadership and direction in budget and administration and management of financial reporting to the various partners and stakeholders.
