The Finance Department at Tangerine is primarily responsible for the capture and reporting of financial information for internal and external audiences in accordance with applicable standards. In addition, the Finance Department performs other important functions, including Treasury Administration, Accounts Payable, and Management Accounting.

The Accountant of Finance Control and Analysis is responsible for performing a key control function for ensuring accurate reconciliation of all balance sheet and P&L accounts and compliance with the Bank’s accounting policies and IFRS guidelines. The Accountant understands the source, process and rationale for all entries booked to the general ledger and ensures financial information is accurately reflected in our general ledger and reconciled with relevant sources. The incumbent liaises with other departments or service providers where necessary to investigate and resolve differences. They will report directly to the Manager of Reconciliation.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  1. Analyze assigned general ledger accounts.
  2. Explain variances for assigned general ledger accounts.
  3. Reconcile general ledger accounts related to the Bank’s product offerings (i.e. Credit cards, loyalty balances, mutual funds, overdraft account, deposits) and ensure timely identification and resolution of all reconciling items.
  4. Reconcile general ledger accounts related to the Bank’s operational activities (i.e. payroll, fixed assets, stock-based compensation, leases, foreign currency accounting etc.) and ensure timely identification and resolution of all reconciling items.
  5. Investigate, follow-up and resolve reconciliation issues spanning multiple channels and a multitude of vendors and systems.
  6. Co-ordinate activities with external vendors and staff in other departments to investigate and resolve issues.
  7. Ensure compliance with SOX requirements with respect to the assigned general ledger accounts.
  8. Assist with answering external audit queries as well as preparing material requested by the auditors.
  9. Identify and initiate process improvements to reduce manual effort and maintain accuracy and controls.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have experience with:

  1. Minimum 2 years of reconciliation experience.
  2. Experience with retail banking products, mainly with credit card with loyalty programs, overdraft accounts, and deposits.
  3. Completion of a financial accounting designation is an asset (Canadian or overseas).
  4. Understanding of IFRS requirements.
  5. Strong understanding of all Banking products including, but not limited to, mortgages, investments, mutual funds, credit cards, overdraft accounts and retail deposits.
  6. Systematic approach to problem solving.
  7. Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Excel and Access.
  8. Proven ability to multi-task and to prioritize competing priorities.
  9. Ability to successfully meet tight deadlines.
  10. Logical, clear and organized thinking.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
