The majority of Líl̓wat Nation citizens live near Mount Currie, BC. Named for the spectacular 2,591 m mountain. The community is home to approximately 1490 of the Nation’s more than 2,275 members.

Our government, headed by a Political Chief, a Cultural Chief and an 11-person council elected to four-year terms. Council is committed to transparency and employs best practices in all aspects of governance.

Our vision is for Líl̓wat to flourish with full autonomy of our territory, preserving our language and culture, by cultivating a prosperous, healthy, and harmonious community for all. Nťákmen(Our Way) provides the foundation for all of the Nation’s work as we move towards self-determination.

Who you are

You are a passionate and visionary leader dedicated to building organizational culture and infrastructure within an Indigenous organization. You excel in clear and honest communication, engaging people in planning and decision-making processes, and demonstrating a deep commitment to the community and it’s people. With a talent for inspiring and creative leadership, you have a proven history of forging strong relationships and cohesive teams. You navigate seamlessly between boardroom settings with Chief and Council and Government Officials to community interactions with members and Elders. As a financially savvy professional and policy expert, you have established solid networks with Indigenous organizations, government agencies, and other relevant partners.

You are genuinely and intentionally human-centered, patient, curious, have a resilient nature, and are both compassionate and empathic to the impacts of intergenerational trauma. You are relational, approachable, and respectfully confident with the ability to lead and hold space for diverse teams and people.

What you will do

Reporting to the Chiefs and Council you will oversee and lead the Líl̓wat Nation’s administration and operations, covering all aspects of operational planning, policy implementation, financial oversight, program and department management, economic growth initiatives, capital project execution, human resources, employee well-being, and community engagement and development. You will work closely with General Managers and Directors to implement and deliver on strategy in alignment with Lil’wat Nation’s vision and goals.

Leadership

· Provide leadership and support to the Chiefs and Council in developing, reviewing, and upholding the Líl̓wat Nation’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

· Lead the planning, development, and management of administration, programs, projects, finances, and operations, including overseeing the development and implementation of Five-Year and Annual Plans.

Chiefs and Council

· Support the Chiefs and Council in enhancing community quality of life through wellness, culture, and resource preservation. Attend and participate in Chiefs and Council meetings and community gatherings.

· Communicate and implement Chiefs and Council directives and keep them informed of significant matters affecting the Líl̓wat Nation, including community, administration, operations, and economic development initiatives.

Relationships

· Forge, manage, and strengthen relationships with Chiefs, Council members, community members, community leaders, government agencies, and business partners to ensure cohesive and effective governance.

· Utilize these networks to facilitate collaboration, secure resources, and align initiatives with community needs and goals, enhancing overall administration and operations.

Human Resources Management

· Working collaboratively with the Human Resources team, oversee the development, review, and administration of Employee (Human Resource) Policies and Procedures, ensuring all employees understand and comply with approved guidelines.

· Supervise, coach, and evaluate direct reports, develop individual training and development plans, and provide regular and special reports to the Líl̓wat Nation Governance Committee on human resource management affairs.

Financial Management

· Provide leadership and support in planning, developing, managing, and reporting on the financial affairs of the Líl̓wat Nation Administration and Operations, including oversight of approved financial plans and budgets.

· Monitor financial affairs and provide regular and special reports to the Chiefs and Council while supporting the Director of Finance in communications and reporting to the Finance and Audit Committee.

Community Development and Relationships

· Keep Líl̓wat Nation members informed about community development initiatives, programs, services, policies, and employment opportunities, and provide opportunities for them to share their views and concerns on new or ongoing programs and initiatives.

· Lead internal and external communications by participating in community meetings and acting as a spokesperson for the Líl̓wat Nation Administration and Operations on major projects and initiatives.

What you bring

· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, or related discipline OR equivalent post-secondary education, certifications, and experience.

· 10-12 years of experience in public or local administration with at least 5 years in a senior management position.

· Demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, with experience managing complex organizations/ leading teams of up to 350 employees.

· Demonstrated ability to use strengths-based feedback and coaching principles with a strong ability to facilitate collaboration, cooperation, and coalitions among diverse teams.

· Experience in developing and administering formal strategies, plans, and policies.

· Understanding of First Nations government, self-governance development, and inherent rights, title, and responsibilities.

· Experience working with and building/maintaining effective relationships with Federal and Provincial Government Agencies and Organizations.

· Knowledge of Líl̓wat Nation culture, values, traditions, and language is preferred.

· Strong communication and organizational skills, along with meticulous attention to detail.

· Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· High level of professionalism in business, presentation, and interaction with stakeholders, clients, and members.
