Our client is seeking a Senior Privacy Specialist to join their dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work with both Legal and IT departments, as well as cross-functionally, to carry out and improve operational processes related to privacy compliance. The successful candidate will ensure that privacy-related requests, projects, business processes, data governance, and program reporting are compliant with Canadian privacy laws and regulations. This role also involves working with affiliates and partners, ensuring privacy and data governance practices align with company requirements.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Privacy Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of our client's privacy compliance program.

  • Responding to customer rights requests submitted through the privacy mailbox within documented processes and service levels
  • Working cross-functionally to ensure business processes for data retention and destruction are being followed correctly
  • Collaborating with business and IT departments to ensure privacy requirements for projects or change requests are accurate and compliant with all appropriate legislation and policies
  • Scheduling and facilitating Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) for any projects, change requests, or new business activities that manage, collect, or process sensitive data
  • Working with affiliates and partners to ensure they have appropriate privacy compliance policies and procedures in place
  • Ensuring business and IT documentation reflects any new implementations or changes
  • Completing and publishing privacy program reporting on schedule including appropriate reviews before publishing
  • Updating education courses and materials appropriately upon changes to legislation or policies

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Privacy Specialist role will bring a wealth of experience in corporate governance, IT Security, or data governance.

  • Post-Secondary Education in corporate compliance, IT Security, or related discipline is required
  • 5+ years Experience working in corporate governance, IT Security, or data governance with exposure to PIPEDA compliance is essential
  • Certifications in CIPP or CIPT and/or exposure to GDPR or CCPA would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team and influence/drive change across functional areas is necessary
  • Proven proficiency in identifying, diagnosing, resolving problems at all levels and complexity, prioritising critical issues, and identifying department needs is crucial
