Here is what you will be doing:

The Privacy Specialist is responsible for assisting the Privacy Manager in ensuring Ontario Health (OH) programs comply with privacy rules and regulations. As part of this role, the Privacy Specialist provides privacy advisory services, conducts short privacy impact assessments (sPIAs), supports privacy operations, assists in developing and implementing the privacy program, and supports the Privacy Manager as required.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Reporting to the Manager, Privacy, the Privacy Specialist is responsible for assisting the team in ensuring OH programs comply with privacy rules and regulations and incorporate Privacy by Design principles. In this role, you will be part of a team that leads the development and operation of a privacy program for some of the most exciting and transformative initiatives in Ontario.

As a Privacy Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:

Develop privacy policies and procedures.
Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) or sPIAs for small to medium complex initiatives.
Investigate privacy incidents and complete privacy incident reports.
Identify and assessing privacy risks.
Provide privacy advisory and support services to business teams.
Lead and participate on project teams as the privacy subject matter expert.
Identify privacy requirements.
Develop strong relationships with various internal and external stakeholders to foster a culture of privacy.
Support privacy program projects and activities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Privacy Office.
Develop and deliver privacy training for Ontario Health.
Other duties as required.

Education and Experience

Recognized access and privacy designation (CIPP/C) is preferred.
Recognized security certification or designation is an asset.
Bachelor's degree in health care, health informatics, public or business administration or another relevant field is preferred.
1 to 3 years of relevant privacy, legal and/or compliance experience, with 1 year focused in public sector healthcare privacy preferred.
Experience conducting privacy impact assessments.
Direct operational level privacy experience, preferably in a health sector and/or IT environment.

Knowledge and Skills

Demonstrated knowledge of privacy requirements and practices, preferably related to the health and public sectors.
Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA).
Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
Thorough understanding of Privacy by Design principles and privacy best practices.
Experience conducting privacy impact assessments, including developing privacy requirements and risk mitigation plans.
Working knowledge of digital health technologies and information security industry standards.
Excel in a fast-paced and project focused environment.
Exceptional analytic and creative problem-solving abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
