Responsibilities of this Position:

Project Design, Implementation and Reporting

  • Lead various impact assessment and permitting projects in Eastern Canada and work closely with senior impact assessment specialists to develop large impact studies. 
  • Support assessment of impacts of development projects on the socio-economic environment, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, land and resource use, cultural heritage, landscape, economy, community services and infrastructure, and community health / well-being / public safety. This involves:
  • Designing and conducting primary and secondary research involving qualitative and quantitative data;
  • Analyzing the data to characterize the socio-economic environment, assess potential impacts and develop mitigation / monitoring / management measures.
  • Prepare and / or review impact assessment and discipline-specific documentation with a focus on the socio-economic environment.
  • Develop, manage and report on engagement processes involving communities, stakeholders and Indigenous groups.
  • Coordinate internal GHD environmental disciplines and external sub-consultants.

Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain strong supportive relationships with co-workers, clients and project partners to successfully execute project deliverables.
  • Mentor and support junior staff. 

Project Management

  • Manage project execution, including tracking project metrics (e.g., tasks, schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditures) using project scheduling and cost control tools.
  • Lead client discussions.

Business Development

  • Support business development efforts, including potential client / prospect identification, proposal writing and client-facing activities.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in social or environmental sciences or related field. 
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in impact assessment with a focus on socio-economic components.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in provincial (preferably in Eastern Canada) and federal impact assessment.

Required Skills and Attributes :

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams).
  • Excellent writing, communication, digital and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that includes independent and collaborative work.
  • Knowledge of and interest in relevant fields in the social sciences.
  • Knowledge of impact assessment legislation, methods and practices.
  • Ability to consistently deliver on time high-quality reports, analyses, proposals and other materials.
  • Proficiency in written and oral French* and English.

*As part of this function, you will be required to intervene with internal and external key clients within Eastern Canada and/or with Canadian or global teams on a recurring basis, in both oral and written capacity.
