For over 35 years, Maplesoft has been a leading provider of software tools for engineering, science, research and teaching.  Maple is math software that combines the world's most powerful math engine with an interface that makes it extremely easy to analyze, explore, visualize, and solve mathematical problems. 

Reporting to the CEO, the VP of Finance will be responsible for the oversight of all financial, accounting, and reporting activities and preparing financial results for presentation to the Board of Directors.

The VP of Finance oversees the financial operation of the business, which includes subsidiary companies in Europe, China and Japan, and is responsible for the accuracy and timely completion of the company’s reported financial results.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a team of accounting professionals to oversee all aspects of finance and accounting at Maplesoft.
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports; prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to Maplesoft’s Executive team and Board of Directors.
  • Interact with Maplesoft’s Executive team and Board of Directors as well as representatives from our parent company, in Japan, on aspects of Maplesoft’s financial reporting.
  • Identify any potential risk areas and present to senior management.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls to support the financial infrastructure.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with professional standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assume Maplesoft’s treasury functions including relationships with various banks, globally.
  • Coordinate all financial and tax compliance activity. Be the principal lead with our external advisors.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on tax related matters including global tax strategies, transfer pricing and various compliance issues.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external advisors, auditors, parent company, board members and regulatory bodies.
  • Educate and mentor staff and peers on financial performance to drive a culture of cost ownership.
  • Understand the company’s vision and strategy and play an active role in the identification, assessment and execution of growth opportunities.
  • Experience in financial roles with progressive levels of responsibility. Applicants at the Director level will also be considered.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance or Accounting, with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • A comprehensive understanding of financial practices, Canadian and US GAAP/IFRS, financial reporting and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Self-motivated and able to maintain strict deadlines for closing processes and project timelines.
  • A strong, hands-on leader who will encourage growth and engagement within the accounting team.
  • Ability to successfully communicate and collaborate at the executive and BOD levels of an organization.
  • Organized and structured, with the ability to set strategy, build a plan and execute.
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, with ability to drive change and maintain best practices in accounting.
