POSITION FUNCTION:
The HR Business Partner will be the key point of contact for employees and managers located in our BC locations which include sites in Langley, Surrey, and Burnaby. In this role, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day HR support on issues such as attendance/time management, employee relations, and performance management. Additionally, this role will support recruitment activities for both salaried and hourly positions.
This position will report to the Vice President of Human Resources located in Ontario but will be accountable to the General Manager for the region on a daily basis. As of May 2024, our Surrey location will move to Delta. This role can be primarily based out of either Langley or Delta but will require weekly travel to the other locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Talent Acquisition:
    Work with managers to identify hiring needs and prepare the requisition and job description for posting. Coordinate all hiring activity for sites and ensure a consistent approach across the organization. Conduct pre-screening, organize interviews, and participate with leaders to help identify talent for key roles. Assist in managing temporary/contract staff at sites; liaise with agency partners as required. Prepare all offer paperwork, complete reference/background checks. Work with Payroll to ensure all new hire paperwork is completed and employees are set up correctly in Ceridian for proper payroll processing. Work with Health and Safety to facilitate orientation sessions for all new hires. In conjunction with the HR team, identify new sourcing strategies, job fairs, and job boards to increase exposure and branding in local markets. Support student/coop and temporary hiring activities as needed.
  2. Performance Management and Employee Relations:
    Complete exit interviews, prepare change forms to ensure proper processing for any resignations, and prepare all documentation for any layoff activities. Conduct detailed and thorough investigations as required, make recommendations for training/education and/or discipline; prepare final report and close off memos. Schedule proactive meetings with leaders to review team dynamics, identify any issues/concerns to focus on engagement and retention. Prepare all documentation and coach leaders on discipline and/or termination activities. Track and monitor absences by site, proactively engage with leaders to address concerns, and review all documentation for any suspensions prior to issuing. Prepare site communication. Research and recommend training and development activities for employees to assist with their ongoing development. Participate with the national HR team in developing and facilitating a Leadership Development program to continue to build capability in our new and aspiring leaders. Drive succession conversations, track development activities, and work with leadership teams to build a pipeline of future leaders.
  3. General HR Activities:
    Partner with the business leaders to ensure the people strategy is aligned with the business strategy. Assist in managing absenteeism for the organization including documenting all employee absences and managing return to work. Work with Health and Safety and Operations to prepare toolbox talk messages to improve information flow. Collaborate with Management and Health and Safety on any employee absences or workplace injuries to ensure paperwork is completed in a timely fashion. Assist supervisors in managing return to work programs, including modified work options and supporting employees off on leave. Assist in planning and organizing social events to drive employee engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Degree or diploma in Human Resources management combined with a minimum of 5 years of HR generalist experience including talent acquisition and coaching.
  2. Minimum of 2 years experience managing high-volume recruitment activities, including preparing job descriptions, sourcing talent, and interviewing.
  3. Previous experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred.
  4. Demonstrated experience coaching leaders to address issues associated with performance, attendance, or general conduct.
  5. Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
  6. Demonstrated experience with public speaking and/or facilitation is preferred.
  7. Work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  8. Demonstrated knowledge of BC HR law, Employment Standards Act, and Human Rights legislation.
  9. Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  10. Highly confidential with personal and sensitive information.
  11. Systems savvy, familiarity with Ceridian Dayforce is an asset.
  12. Experience working in a decentralized HR environment preferred.
