About the Role

The Facilitator will support families and their children/adolescents using a trauma informed and strength-based approach to develop a plan to best meet their needs. The Support Facilitator aids the participant in identifying and understanding personal and/or family issues and in establishing and achieving specific, attainable goals. This community-based service works with participants to assist and support parents in their role as caregivers, to enhance and promote parental competency, to increase a sense of belonging within the child/adolescent and their caregiver, and to strengthen and preserve family functioning.

The Support Facilitator will provide education, build, and model parenting skills and strategies, and provide targeted programs based on the assessed needs of the family. They will provide opportunities for parents/caregivers and/or significant persons to maintain contact with their children/adolescents and develop the skills required to address any safety concerns. During visits, the Support Facilitator will provide caregiver coaching, assessments, observation and reporting, and therapeutic intervention and/or educational opportunities.

Hours of work will be flexible to ensure participants have access to support.

Position: Temporary Part Time 17.5 hours per week until March 31, 2025

Compensation: $32.24-$37.59 per hour

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

1. Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counselling, or related field of study
  • 1 year experience working with complex needs families.

2. Job skills and abilities

  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written skills
  • Strong understanding of Trauma Informed Practice
  • Understands the impact of colonization, residential schools and resulting intergenerational trauma in indigenous communities
  • Knowledge of 2SLGBTQIA+ issues
  • Incorporates positive child development and a strengths based approach
  • Knowledge of parenting skills and child development
  • Knowledge of family breakdown and family impact (grief loss, parent/child separation)
  • Knowledge of issues related to family violence and impact on family development
  • Knowledge of issues related to child abuse including sexual abuse and neglect
  • Knowledge of the bio-psycho-social factors that affect mental wellness including substance use
  • Conflict management and resolution skills
  • Proficient knowledge of group process and facilitation technique
  • Ability to work effectively with participants, program team and other community professionals
  • Good time management skills including the ability to work independently

3. Other Requirements

  • Ability to provide proof of COVID 19 vaccination or letter of exemption
  • Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle
