The Opportunity

Stark & Marsh CPA LLP is seeking a qualified individual to join our firm in the Audit & Accounting Department as an experienced Accountant in our Swift Current office location. This role is a full-time permanent position (on-site). As part of our Audit & Accounting Department, our successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of reviews and audits, along with additional involvement in compilations and corporate tax returns.

Requirements

Our successful candidate will take on a professional role as part of servicing our clients, leading engagement teams, and providing coaching and mentoring to junior team members. The ideal candidate requirements are:

  • CPA designated or equivalent designation, or near completion of the designation.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in an accounting, finance or a business program, supported by a minimum of eighteen months’ work experience as an auditor in a public accounting firm.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial statements, and the ability to plan and execute an engagement to gain assurance over the same.
  • Strong understanding of the CPA Canada Handbook including financial reporting frameworks and Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS)Canadian GAAP and GAAS.
  • Strong computer literacy.
  • Experience with public accounting software such as CaseWare, CCH iFirm, TaxPrep, and Practice Management/Dashboard. Experience with recordkeeping software such as AgExpert, QuickBooks, and Sage 50 is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills that allow you to thrive in a team environment.
  • The ability to develop and maintain working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritize workload to ensure client commitments are honoured.
  • Adaptable to using new technology to drive efficiencies also considered an asset.
  • Previous file preparation experience in a public accounting firm required.
  • Possess valid Drivers’ License. Travel to client locations to perform and execute Audit/Assurance tasks.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Completion of audit and review engagements in both an individual and team environment
  • Design and execute assurance procedures based on risk and materiality.
  • Identify issues, propose resolutions, and discuss with engagement team and/or partner to reach agreed up on action plans.
  • Verify and test financial statements and supporting disclosures.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients by providing exceptional client service.
  • Network in the local business community.
