Position Overview:

We’re looking for an experienced coordinator to help support our youth drop-in program team. As part of our City of Kitchener Youth Services team, you will help create a variety of activities for youth ages 12-17 at our local community centres to meaningfully engage local youth. You will be responsible for supporting multiple staff teams as they provide active recreation, social and leadership opportunities for children and youth in programs across the city.

  • Experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing program plans for age-appropriate youth activities

  • Understanding of conflict resolution processes and group dynamics
  • Motivation to work with youth ages 12-17 and provide meaningful opportunities for recreation, leisure and social activities.
Anticipated Employment Dates:

Programs start the week of Sept 16.

  • Hours per week: Part-time: 0-24 hours
  • Training: Thursday September 12 @ 6:00PM–8:00PM and Saturday September 14 @ 3:30PM–5:30PM. Please Note: ALL training in-person and online is required and mandatory to complete prior to start of program/camp.
Responsibilities:Staff Coordination:
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all Youth Drop-in teams.
  • Actively participate in creating a high-energy team.
  • Visit program sites and meet teams on location.
  • Monitor program activities and provide support, coordination and feedback to staff and address minor performance issues to ensure the delivery of safe, quality, and inclusive programs in accordance with City guidelines.
  • Assist staff in addressing youth behaviour issues and implementing effective behaviour management strategies as needed.
  • Assist in implementing program evaluations and staff feedback.
Program Coordination and Administration:
  • Role-model good character and good behaviour for staff team and youth participants.
  • Interact with staff, participants, centre staff and community members/agencies to provide program information and deal with facility or program issues as required.
  • Take action to deal with minor participant incidents, problems, and behaviour concerns according to policies and procedures to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all.
  • Coordinate the collection of participant forms, evaluations and statistics as well as write and submit reports including a final report prior to the end of the contract.
  • Ensure sites have equipment, supplies and program forms as required.
  • Assist with on-site emergency procedures and provide first aid as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma
  • Minimum 3 months of related experience
  • Minimum age requirement – must be at least 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment
  • Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Police Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) issued after August 1, 2024 upon conditional offer
  • Access to reliable personal transportation to work is required for the full duration of employment
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
