Principal, Building Science Specialist
Our client is a beacon for building science leadership, focused on delivering scalable climate resilient solutions for clients and future generations. They are seeking a Principal, Building Science Specialist to join their Canada West Leadership Team. In their Canada West region, they have deep roots as leaders in the building science industry where we aim to deliver high quality services that provide value to their clients. They lead the industry by tackling the most difficult building science challenges head on, with climate resilient solutions being a key driver of our work today and into the future. They are seeking to grow their team with a Principal who shares their interest in differentiating themselves through innovation and quality. The Building Science Specialist is a technical leader within RDH and will involve the application of building science fundamentals to a wide range of buildings. You will focus on leading building enclosure consulting work from the investigation of building enclosure performance problems through to design and construction, with a primary focus on existing buildings. You will work with others to further develop and grow our services in British Columbia, including the integration of a climate resilience paradigm into their traditional building science solutions. The position will include the development and maintenance of client relationships, identifying and responding to project opportunities, developing and delivering building science service offerings, technical leadership, and the development of staff to support their services. In addition to the core technical leadership, this role also includes the opportunity to be a key contributor to the strategic direction of their Canada West region and to take on significant internal team leadership responsibility.
Lead the team as project principal throughout all investigation, design and construction stages of existing building projects
Participate as part of the team for early-stage services, including strategic advice for the integration of energy, building enclosure, heating/cooling and ventilation performance objectives
Provide expertise and guidance, input, or internal peer review for projects
Undertake project specific business development activities and proposal preparation
Help to ensure delivery of services and products to meet company quality standards including development of internal processes and technical standards/checklists
Assist with the development and delivery of in-house and client education and training programs
Provide technical leadership including sharing knowledge on the company's internal technical forums
Network within the building enclosure community, including authoring papers and speaking engagements at various industry events and seminars
Help advance our knowledge as visible experts in our field
Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture
~15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosure
~ Field experience addressing site conditions and managing construction process and contract issues
~ Successful relationship building experience particularly with developers, architects, building owners and other project team members
~ Proven success leading projects involving large and small buildings
~ Excellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processes
~ Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple components
~ Analytical problem solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues
~ Fast learner with the ability to develop technical and interpersonal skills
~ Excellent ability to communicate complex technical information to staff, clients, and trades
~ Excellent ability to shift focus between changing priorities
~ Solid project management skills and the ability to manage performance of others
