They are a dynamic and growing private oil and gas services company based in the Northeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. As they continue to expand, they are seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Manager to join their team. This role offers a unique opportunity for professional growth, with the potential to advance to the position of Controller within the next 1-2 years.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. As the Accounting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the company. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance, you will lead a team of six accounting professionals, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong leader who is not only capable of managing a team but also willing to dive into the details when necessary.
  2. Financial Management: Oversee all aspects of the company's accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  3. Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of six accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  4. Financial Reporting: Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements, management reports, and regulatory filings.
  5. Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with the VP of Finance to develop and manage the company's annual budget, providing insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  6. Internal Controls: Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  7. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance efficiencies, and leverage technology to improve accuracy and reduce manual effort.
  8. Audit and Tax Compliance: Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring all required documentation is accurate and readily available. Oversee tax planning and compliance, working with external advisors as necessary.
  9. Succession Planning: Prepare for a seamless transition to the Controller role within the next 1-2 years by gaining a deep understanding of the company's financial operations and strategic goals.

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  2. CPA designation preferred.
  3. Previous experience in accounting and finance roles, with at least 5 - 7+ years of progressive experience, preferably in the oil and gas services industry.
  4. Strong knowledge of financial reporting requirements and internal controls frameworks.
  5. Experience with ERP systems and proficiency in MS Excel.
  6. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  8. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to senior management.

About the Job

  1. Base salary ideally in the $110,000 to $120,000 range.
