Job Description

As a part of our continued growth, AECOM is seeking a motivated and highly skilled Senior Water Resource/ Hydrotechnical Engineer to join in our Mississauga, ON, office. You will lead multidisciplinary teams for the full life cycle of studies related to mine water management inclusive of water balance aspects of tailings storage facilities (TSF) and hydraulic designs across Canada and globally. Your participation will include solving of some of the most complex mining industry problems.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Leading or managing projects focused on hydrology and hydraulics for mine development, operations, and closure;
  • Conducting studies to assess site conditions;
  • Establishing site-wide water and mass balances to guide the design of TSFs, civil engineering and water treatment works;
  • Leading the hydrotechnical component of dam safety reviews (tailings and water retention dams);
  • Facilitating risk review workshop for TSFs;
  • Preparing or directing hydrotechnical designs related to water management for mining facilities, flood routing and overall mine water management design;
  • Designing hydraulic structures for mine sites, including detailed drawings for construction of collection & polishing ponds, spillways, ditches, weirs, basins, pumping stations, culverts;
  • Supporting development and permitting including baseline hydrology studies, climate studies, flow impact analyses and low-flow analyses;
  • Performing breach analyses for mine dams (tailings and water retention);
  • Delivering complex scopes of work involving technical designs and reviews, and collaboration with other technical leads responsible for geotechnical and environmental components in accordance with AECOM’s Quality Management System;
  • Leading and contributing to proposals and opportunity management;
  • Committing to AECOM’s Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) policy;
  • Mentoring junior and intermediate staff, and fostering a continuous learning environment;
  • Supporting development of mine water management services.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in water resources or civil/environmental engineering;
  • 8+ years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality;
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario;
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and commonly used software;
  • Good knowledge of HEC-HMS and HAC-RAS software;
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS and CADD software;
  • Experience with proposal development and project management;
  • Experience with client management and business development;
  • Possession of a valid driver's license;
  • Demonstrable commitment to SHE management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in water resources civil/environmental engineering;
  • 15+ years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality;
  • Specific mine water management expertise focused on tailings and or waste rock facilities, dam safety classifications, and flood routing assessments;
  • Knowledge of the water management requirements of the mining industry and relevant regulations;
  • Experience in water balance, hydrology and flood modelling related software such as GoldSim, ARCView, PC-SWMM/EPA, SWMM, VISUAL OTTHYMO, InfoWorks will be considered an asset;
  • A team player with the ability to motivate and lead by example;
  • A prominent level of business acumen, business development and innovative solutions driven customer focus;
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for building and growing businesses.
