Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certificate level training in an engineering/technical field, preferably mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Three to Five years’ recent, related progressive supervisory and management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • FMP Certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of building systems, operations and maintenance practices in a complex, health care and housing environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of appropriate legislation, relevant laws and by-laws, and provincial/national standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare facilities and housing operations and maintenance best practices.
  • Proven initiative, judgment, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to take action in a crisis management environment.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including the ability to collaborate and to identify solutions to non-routine enquiries.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership and team building skills with a track record of building successful teams, promoting teamwork through motivating, coaching, and consensus-building, and applying innovative and effective people skills to maximize team performance.
  • Ability to supervise and provide direction to staff, consultant, and other contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and maintain effective working relationships with a service-oriented attitude displaying courtesy, tact and diplomacy under stressful situations.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, develop and implement department goals, objectives and operational requirements consistent with New Vista Society’s strategic and operational objectives
  • Reviews current operations and develops appropriate systems and processes to ensure effective and efficient facilities operations
  • Develops and implements the annual operating and capital budget for the care home and properties; responsible for monitoring expenditures, variance analysis and reporting; takes corrective actions as required.
  • Manages the recruitment, mentoring and professional development of assigned staff and contract employees; supervises designated staff, determines staff schedules, provides work direction and assignment of duties to meet operational requirements
  • Conducts employee performance reviews, coaching session and facilitation of goal setting with the employee; identifies training/educational requirements as required; Investigates work and/or staff performance issues and initiates disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of maintenance programs; applies planning/scheduling techniques and risk-mitigation strategies to ensure effective delivery of preventive, predictive and responsive maintenance; ensures appropriate use of the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Procures and manages the work of external service providers, directly or through subordinate supervisors; determines terms of reference, negotiates and monitors contractual agreements for specialized maintenance, grounds and renovation work, as required.
  • Manages assigned construction, renovation and/or maintenance projects; liaises with stakeholders and coordinates the activities of staff, consultants, and contractors to ensure project requirements are met and properties impacts are minimized.
  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of New Vista policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards; ensures compliance by employees and external service providers;
  • Develops and maintains key internal/external stakeholder relations and participates on committees, including the organization’s health and safety committees as required;
  • Ensures the organizations Fire Prevention and readiness systems are maintained to
    regulations/codes and policy. Conducts regular fire drills and employee education
    as required. Liaises with City Fire Officials.
  • Ensures that the Emergency Preparedness of the organization is maintained
    including conducting test exercises, employee education and training, reviewing and
    maintaining supplies. Identifies where gaps exist and recommends strategies to
    address. Liaises with Resource personnel.
  • Develops and implement the preventive maintenance plan for the care home and all properties.
  • Develops and prioritizes capital infrastructure renewal plans in consultation with the Director of Capital Assets and Development.
  • Participates in the development and activation of the care home and properties business continuity plans in cooperation with the clinical leadership team and Property Portfolio Managers.
  • Ensures that the care home is maintained consistent with best practices regarding energy conservation, carbon footprint reduction, and other relevant environmental standards
  • Provides support in specific areas such as infrastructure, technical standards, commissioning of new projects, contract management, and safety or integrity management, as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
