Qualifications:

  • Diploma or certificate level training in an engineering/technical field, preferably mechanical and/or electrical systems.
  • Three to Five years' recent, related progressive supervisory and management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • FMP Certification is an asset.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of building systems, operations and maintenance practices in a complex, health care and housing environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of appropriate legislation, relevant laws and bylaws, and provincial/national standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare facilities and housing operations and maintenance best practices.
  • Proven initiative, judgment, decisionmaking and problemsolving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to take action in a crisis management environment.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including the ability to collaborate and to identify solutions to nonroutine enquiries.
  • Ability to supervise and provide direction to staff, consultant, and other contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and maintain effective working relationships with a serviceoriented attitude displaying courtesy, tact and diplomacy under stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills including the demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, responsibilities, and multiple priorities and schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish, develop and implement department goals, objectives and operational requirements consistent with New Vista Society's strategic and operational objectives
  • Reviews current operations and develops appropriate systems and processes to ensure effective and efficient facilities operations
  • Develops and implements the annual operating and capital budget for the care home and properties; responsible for monitoring expenditures, variance analysis and reporting; takes corrective actions as required.
  • Manages the recruitment, mentoring and professional development of assigned staff and contract employees; supervises designated staff, determines staff schedules, provides work direction and assignment of duties to meet operational requirements
  • Conducts employee performance reviews, coaching session and facilitation of goal setting with the employee; identifies training/educational requirements as required; Investigates work and/or staff performance issues and initiates disciplinary action up to and including termination.
  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of maintenance programs; applies planning/scheduling techniques and riskmitigation strategies to ensure effective delivery of preventive, predictive and responsive maintenance; ensures appropriate use of the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Procures and manages the work of external service providers, directly or through subordinate supervisors; determines terms of reference, negotiates and monitors contractual agreements for specialized maintenance, grounds and renovation work, as required.
  • Manages assigned construction, renovation and/or maintenance projects; liaises with stakeholders and coordinates the activities of staff, consultants, and contractors to ensure project requirements are met and properties impacts are minimized.
  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of New Vista policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards; ensures compliance by employees and external service providers;
  • Develops and maintains key internal/external stakeholder relations and participates on committees, including the organization's health and safety committees as required;
  • Ensures the organizations Fire Prevention and readiness systems are maintained to
regulations/codes and policy. Conducts regular fire drills and employee education
as required. Liaises with City Fire Officials.

  • Ensures that the Emergency Preparedness of the organization is maintained
including conducting test exercises,
