Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position will be responsible for processing payroll and compensation for the Firm. In addition, the candidate will support general accounting functions including posting payroll entries, reconciling accounts, preparing the annual payroll budget and forecasting throughout the year. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of payroll and accounting principles, and experience working in a professional services or legal environment. ResponsibilitiesProcess full cycle biweekly payroll including related changes; relating to new hires, terminations, salary increases/changes, bonus payments, fitness reimbursements, leave of absences and other taxable benefits as required.Create and run payroll reports from ADP WorkforceNow.Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile related general ledger accounts.Balance and remit statutory withholdings, contributions to group RRSP plan, United Way, garnishments.Prepare annual payroll budget and projections in collaboration with the HR Department.Prepare reports for management and external accountants as required.Act as subject matter expert and respond to general questions related to payroll.Review and reconcile year end T4 slips, complete year end payroll process and year-end adjustments.Participate in internal and external payroll audits and respond to and resolve any government agency inquiries.Liaise with HR and third-party payroll vendors to ensure smooth payroll operationsMonitor legislative changes that impact payroll, and update processes to ensure compliance.Identify any current inefficiencies, best practices and make recommendations for improvements.Assist with payroll and accounting projects as required.
