Are you passionate about solving technical problems and providing excellent customer service? If so, the City of Kamloops has an exciting opportunity to join our IT team as an IT Helpdesk Technician. As an IT Helpdesk Technician, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving various IT issues for our internal and external clients. Responsibilities also include providing support for hardware, software, network, and security systems. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and a customer-oriented attitude. Please note, This posting includes a fully qualified IT Helpdesk Technician I as well as a Training Opportunity and our preference is to hire a fully qualified candidate. However, if there are no candidates deemed fully qualified, candidates for the Training Opportunity will be considered.

The successful candidate for an IT Helpdesk Technician I ($ 40.24/hour) must have the following qualifications:

  1. Completion of a post-secondary diploma from a recognized institute of technology in information systems.
  2. Minimum two years’ working experience managing Windows and iPhone Operating System (iOS) endpoints, Internet Protocol (IP) Local Area Network (LAN) and Wi-Fi Communication, Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Communication, Active Directory, audio/video equipment, printing, and POS equipment with one year of experience managing Office 365, Exchange Online, Intune, Group Policy, and Windows Server in an end user support role.
  3. Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP enhanced security clearance. If you are unable to obtain or maintain an RCMP enhanced security clearance, your employment with the City will be terminated.
  4. Valid BC Driver’s licence - Class 5.


The successful candidate for an IT Helpdesk Technician I – Training Opportunity ($38.451/hour) must have the following qualifications:

  1. Minimum two years’ working experience managing Windows and iPhone Operating System (iOS) endpoints, Internet Protocol (IP) Local Area Network (LAN) and Wi-Fi Communication, Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Communication, Active Directory, audio/video equipment, printing, and POS equipment with one year of experience managing Office 365, Exchange Online, Intune, Group Policy, and Windows Server in an end user support role.

For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position.

To be considered for an RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance, applicants must be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Resident status in Canada. Note individuals with Permanent Resident status must have resided (physically present) in Canada for three (3) out of the last five (5) years as a permanent resident.

Hourly Rate
Inside 10 $ 38.451, Inside 11 $ 40.247

Hours & Days of Work
Monday - Friday 7 hours between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM
